Dear Friend,

In this last newsletter of the summer term, we look towards our last webinar of the academic year which takes place on Tuesday 5 July. In this webinar, we hope to come together with everyone who has joined us on our Montessori Musings journey since we hosted our first webinar on 15 July 2020 when we explored whether it is only the child's work if freely chosen by that child. In our final webinar before the summer, we will celebrate all who have supported our work as speakers, facilitators and blog post contributors. We will pause to remember Marlene Barron and consider her excellent article: Montessori and the Post Modern World as we reflect on the role of Montessori education in the 21st Century. We will also celebrate the generosity of the Montessori Community as we share the amount of funds raised by you to support Sparkle Malawi. We do hope you will join us and you can register here. We will send a reminder email of this webinar the weekend before.

When we left our jobs in that summer of 2020 and set up Montessori Musings the world was in the midst of a pandemic. Lockdowns restricted us from opening our classrooms and the Montessori Community naturally drew together to understand how we might best continue to support the children in a world that was in flux. With Montessori Musings, we hoped to provide Montessorians around the world with a place to reflect and come together to find support from each other and in our recent survey which many of you kindly completed, it feels like we met this aim; we were humbled by your overwhelmingly positive response to our work.

We are conscious, however, that life seems to be returning to (a new) normal and prevents you from dipping into our weekly offerings as you manage your busy and filled daily routines. Our plan for next academic year, therefore, is to offer monthly webinars and newsletters focusing on topics suggested by you in the survey, interspersed with more theoretical webinars where we connect various child development theorists with Montessori's own work.

We are most grateful to David Gettman from My Montessori Child for his continued support of our work, which allows us to continue to offer all that we do to you. We hope to continue to serve the needs of the Montessori Community and that we continue to engage, reflect and challenge ourselves so that we offer the best possible practice to the children in our care.
With our warmest wishes,

Applying the EYFS in your Montessori Setting

Our guide, Applying the EYFS in your Montessori Setting, drafted by Barbara Isaacs, is still available. This guide is dedicated to all the amazing Montessori Early Years Teachers, committed to guiding the children in their care so they may reach their full potential.

The guide is available in electronic format only. It is available to all in return for whatever small donation you can make to The Sparkle Foundation, an organisation that attempts to deliver a future in which every community has equal opportunity to live a life of health and self-sufficiency in Malawi. Their integrated approach incorporates four main pillars: education, community, nutrition and healthcare. All reliant on each other to be successful they support children, youth, women and the elderly with a range of programmes that are developed based on the needs of our community.

Their education programme for children under 6 is based on a mix of the Montessori vision with Malawi’s National Early Childhood Development structure, to provide an educational, fun and creative English-speaking environment for the children to begin their journey of learning.

Support their work by making a donation on our Justgiving Page.

Montessori Musings is most grateful for the continued exclusive support of My Montessori Child, the only genuinely Montessori system for early years record-keeping. This support allows us to serve the Montessori Community and to provide free access for all to everything we do.
