AWARDS  SEASON 2015

 

AHA AWARDS
August has been a busy yet exciting  month here at Pialligo Estate.We had the honour to attend the 2015 Australian Hotels Association (AHA) Awards Night..

Following a record number of entries in the Awards, more than 460 industry, political and hospitality leaders attended the black-tie event to honour the outstanding achievements of ACT hospitality businesses and employees.

Pialligo Estate Farmhouse Restaurant has been awarded ''BEST RESTAURANT' 2015 in Canberra, ACT.

SAVOUR AWARDS
Pialligo Estate Farmhouse Restaurant has won the Best New Restaurant category in the ACT Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence 2015.

More than 70 local restaurants, cafes and catering businesses were judged across 21 categories, with the winners announced at the Awards for Excellence ceremony.

The Awards for Excellence is a nationally recognised awards program that celebrates exceptional service and culinary talent across Australia. The Awards for Excellence is an authoritative guide to Australia’s best restaurants and caterers, recognising and promoting industry best practice.

Now in its 17th year the Awards of Excellence are judged by an independent team of trained judges who anonymously visit all venues to determine the winners. The scores are based on the entire dining experience from the food to the standard of customer service experienced by the judges.


GOURMET TRAVLLER
We are proud to announce Pialligo Estate Farmhouse Restaurant has been nominated for Gourmet Traveller's Wine List of the Year -2015.
All nominations will be judged by a panel of impartial and highly qualified wine experts. They will assess the merit of each list based on the quality of the wines, the balance of choice, the design and presentation of the list and the suitability of the wines to the style of cuisine served by the venue.


SMOKEHOUSE
Pialligo Estate is home to the award-winning Pialligo Estate Smokehouse, which has won 52 national food awards since 2013 including Australia’s best Artisan Bacon and the Champion medal for smoked salmon at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show in 2013, 2014 and 2015

We are very pleased to announce that our Pialligo Estate Smokehouse Premium Dry Cured & Smoked Bacon has been awarded 2 out of 3 stars by the Great Taste Awards 2015.
Great Taste, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. It has been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world and the ‘epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize’. Quite simply the Great Taste logo is the sign you can trust when buying food and drink in your local, quality retailer.

Finally back in Canberra, Mark Lloyd of Coriole fame will showcase the best of his recent vintages. Woodside cheeses and Coriole produce will complement cuisine by our Chef de Cuisine, Brendan Walsh.

MARKET GARDEN

GARLIC
The market garden is quiet over the winter months, however with the frosty mornings and warming days we are seeing the garlic pushing its foliage further from the ground, while underground the bulbs are beginning to form in the nurtured surroundings of our famous fertile alluvial black soil.
With sound preparation and careful planting the area dedicated to garlic this year was covered with a generous blanket of mulched lucerne.
With the bulbs planted in autumn with precision to the equinox, we are looking forward to an abundance of 'Tasmanian purple' and 'Spanish Roja' garlic when harvest commences this summer.
 
TEMPRANILLO
This winter and early spring we are embarking on a reworking of some of our vines.
Currently the vineyard consists of Riesling, Sangiovese, Shiraz and Merlot.
The Merlot whilst still a lovely soft wine is set to have its number of vines reduced to make way for the famous cool climate variety of Tempranillo.
The process to do this with the minimum disruption to production to re-work the established vines by grafting a bud of the Tempranillo variety onto the existing Merlot vines. All going well, we will be harvesting our own estate grown Tempranillo in less than two years.
This Spanish variety is becoming widely appreciated around the world both as a varietal wine and as a blending component.
The characteristics brought from this variety bring notes of plum and strawberry, with the cool climate bringing elegance and hot summer days bringing vibrancy and colour. Pialligo Estate Tempranillo is something to look forward to.
