Cleaning with chemistry

Switch your thinking is celebrating National Science Week 2015 by distributing handbooks and goodie bags to help our community think scientifically about the way we clean our homes.

The cleaning products you buy from the supermarket are often brimming with toxic chemicals that are not good for you or our environment. By getting to know a little bit about the microbes around your home, it’s easy to find alternatives to commercial cleaners. Using simple ingredients like vinegar, lemon juice, bi-carb soda and water you can make non-toxic cleaners – saving you money and cutting down on chemical use and plastic waste.

Update on prizes for our Young Re-inventors

Thanks to the generous support of the Waste Authority, young people who submit their re-inventions by November 9 will now be eligible to share in $3000 worth of prizes! We are also thrilled to now welcome registrations from young people right across Western Australia.

This exciting initiative encourages young people to re-use, re-purpose and up-cycle used items instead of throwing them away. Open to individuals, classes, schools or community groups, Young Re-inventor of the Year is accepting registrations now.

For more information or to register visit Switch your thinking.

This project is funded by the Waste Authority through the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Account.
