School holiday eco-activities
Fun, affordable and environmentally friendly, these activities will keep the kids busy over the school holidays.
GARDEN
Start a food garden by nurturing your seeds in home made newspaper pots. All you need is some newspaper, string, potting mix and seeds. Beans are a great choice, they grow quickly and little people may be more likely to eat veggies they’ve grown themselves!
KITCHEN
Use up left-overs with these fritter faces. Little people love to help in the kitchen and this recipe will encourage kids to eat healthy while cutting food waste in your kitchen.
CRAFT
Your home is a treasure trove of craft resources. Check out this guide for recycled craft including ‘Wastruments’ like glass jar xylophone and plastic bottle panpipes.
TIDY
Get the kids involved in decluttering! Use the four box method when clearing out a cupboard, draw or wardrobe. Put things to keep in box one, things that belong in a another place in the house in box two, things to recycle in box three and things to donate in box four. Consider starting a dress up box with old clothes, jewellery, accessories and decorations.
EXPLORE
Get out of the house and into nature and encourage children to collect fallen leaves, flowers and gumnuts. Use the collected items to make a nature bracelet or take them home to make a collage.
