Five benefits of a green 2017

You probably want to achieve these goals in 2017. The good news is that they can make the world better for all of us. There are lots of reasons to adopt more environmentally responsible behaviours, check out the State of the climate 2016 report from the CSIRO or these fast facts on food waste for some examples. But there are also lots of added benefits of thinking green in 2017 including:

1. Eat better

Cutting food waste and eating better go hand in hand. Plan meals, shop to a list and buy less packaging. You can plan for a balanced diet and buy less processed foods, leading to a healthier diet and less waste. Find more tips to cut food waste here.

2. Save money

There are plenty of actions that you can take that are kind to your bank balance and the planet. Energy and water efficiency are a good place to start. Set your air conditioner at 24 degrees or warmer – every degree cooler than this uses about ten percent more energy. Find more energy efficiency tips here.

3. Get fit

Get on your bike. Reduce your carbon emissions and improve your cardiovascular health.

4. Read more

If cycling is not practical for you, consider public transport. Start by swapping one car trip a week. Use the time on the bus or train to relax, unwind and read. Find more transport tips here.

5. Strengthen community

Join a group to care for the local bush or collect litter. You’ll connect with your neighbours and get to know more about your local area, improving safety and your mental health. Check out the Adopt-a-Spot program ran by Keep Australia Beautiful.
