aKoma's 30 Days of Writing Competition
We want your original stories!
aKoma is proud to present a storytelling competition that will discover some of the best creative written work about Africa. You don't need to be a professional writer, but if you are, that's cool. You just need passion, an observant eye, a little humor (where relevant) and be bold.
As a member of the aKoma Content Creator Community, you are eligible to submit a short essay of 500 words or less on the following topics:
- A Day in My Shoes: My Daily Commute
- Story Behind a Song: Narrate the inspiration behind a popular African Song
- If I had a million dollars, I would innovate...
We are looking for entries with strong and clear writing that are original and compelling. All entries must be completely original (no copy and pasting please!) and follow standard grammar regulations.
Submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm EST each Friday until May 1st; you may submit up to five stories total and include photos if you can. The aKoma team will then pick up the three best stories out of the weekly submissions and post them www.facebook.com/akomanet. Readers will then be able to vote on the best story of the week. Finally, the top 5 stories from each week will be compiled and voting will begin for the winner. You choose the winner.
The winner will be announced on May 15, 2015 via social media.
What the Winning Entry Gets: The winner will receive a $200 USD prize along with a tweeted link to their social media profiles.
Entry Rules: For your stories to be considered, please like the aKoma Facebook page and follow @akomanet on Twitter. If your submission is selected as the overall winner, the rights will belong to Zain Verjee Group and aKoma and we will distribute as we see fit. We will work hard to get your stories to the widest possible audience. By submitting a story, you automatically agree to these rules.
Good luck and happy writing!
The aKoma Team
