SPREAD THE WORD!
This month’s open mic is back to the standard of sign up upon arrival. There will be 5 spots in the open mic, we will do a draw if more than 5 people sign up. There is a 4 min time limit for the open mic.
Slam Rules: As we would love to have complete anarchy and let loose, the abstract concept that currently controls our life being time restricts how long we have to preform. Therefore, we will be extending our time limit to 4 minutes, passing the time limit of 4 minutes will result in being cut off by the host.
BLACK POET RESIDENCY
Summer time is ending and with a new season comes a new chapter of Black Poet Residency. Register Now for the BPR fall program.
In December of 2018, we introduced the Black Poet Residency to our programming. It's an intensive and dynamic workshop series for young writers, performers and creative-minded individuals from across Hamilton.
As a member of the residency, youth have the opportunity to learn from and work with award-winning, critically acclaimed artists and educators. Through their guidance, group members hone their skills, connect with the greater community, and create a strong, impressive professional portfolio; leaving a legacy for future generations of Black youth to be inspired by.
Will you be competing in this year's Hip-Hop Spoken Word Festival?
We work with students and their teachers to develop their writing, artistic voice, and poetic license to make sure they are powerfully set up to compete in the festival. If you're a teacher, parent, or young poet let us know if you're interested in having HYP in your school!
If you would like to register your school to be included in HYP's Poet Residencies or you'd like more information, feel free to email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
