Member's Conference

Many thanks to everybody who came along to our Member's Conference in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sligo!

With peer support and sessions on understanding novel treatments, benefits and entitlements, a debate on whether there will be a need for the I.H.S. in 2030, and yoga and mindfulness on Sunday morning, we certainly hope you had an informative and fun weekend!

Kids enjoyed arts and crafts, swimming, exercise sessions and a trip to Eagles Flying to see all manner of fascinating birds and animals.

Click here for photos from the weekend.

We are looking forward to next year already!

I.H.S. Wins Patient Organisation Project of the Year 2018

The Irish Haemophilia Society won the Patient Organisation Project of the Year award for our 50th Anniversary programme at the Irish Healthcare Awards in October.

A lot of hard work has gone into marking the society's 50th birthday this year but the hard work has been matched by member's enthusiasm for the various event and projects in 2018.

We were thrilled to be nominated for the award and to win, we are over the moon!

Educational Grants Update

The Educational Sub-Group from the Executive Board spent Tuesday evening (October 30) evaluating applications for the 2018 educational grants.

All going to plan, we should have news on the recipients later today (Wednesday, October 31) and if that's the case, we will be notifying everyone who applied regarding how successful their application was by the end of the week.

Little Blue Hero

One of our young members, six-year-old Adam Roche from Tralee, has been nominated for a Little Blue Hero award.

Little Blue Heroes is a not-for-profit charitable foundation established by Garda staff which aims to support local Gardaí in providing financial assistance and practical support to families in local communities who have children undergoing long-term medical treatment for critical illness – and we would like to extend our congratulations to Adam on his fantastic achievement!

As part of the award, Adam will become an honorary member of An Garda Síochána, receive a personalised Garda uniform, which will be made specially for him and he will be given a Garda escort to school – how amazing is that?

Adam will pick up his award at a party on December 9 as will Adam’s twin sister, Grace who will be presented with a separate award by Garda staff on the night of the awards party.

Once again, we would like to congratulate Adam & Grace on their awards - what an amazing achievement!

Happy Halloween!

We certainly hope you had fun over the long weekend & have even more tonight for Halloween!

We love a good costume here at the I.H.S. and would love to see your dress–up creations! Whether your costumes are spooktacular, magical, glamorous or funny, we would love to yours, or your 'little terrors'.

Send your photos to barry@haemophilia.ie and we will share them on Facebook, and perhaps in the next magazine.
