I.H.S. Members' Conference 2016

Hopefully by now, you have all received your Members Conference packs in the post. This year's Members conference will take place between the 14th - 16th October in The Radisson Blu Hotel, Rosses Point, Co. Sligo. The adults’ programme will give a mix of educational and practical interactive sessions for all. On Saturday, the programme consists of a two interactive workshops, a debate and a session on mindfulness. Sunday morning will start with a cooking demonstration with TV Chef Joe Shannon, followed by games for the full group (adults and children) and finishing with lunch.

Children will have a combination of fun activities, workshops and information sessions and the Youth Group, as per tradition at the October Conference, will go to an adventure centre for the weekend.

We are extremely excited about this conference and we hope to see you all there! You can book via post, over the phone on 01 657 9900 or on our online booking form here.

Goodbye Anne!
After 15 years of dedicated service to the I.H.S, Anne Duffy, our Outreach Co-ordinator & Counsellor will retire at the end of August. We would like to give our sincere thanks to Anne for all her work over the years, giving members phenomenal support when they needed it most. She will be missed in the office but we look forward to keeping in touch with her as she continues her studies in September. Don't be a stranger, Anne!

New Staff Members
We would like to introduce you all to our two new members of staff, Rose and Paula. They are settling in extremely well in the office and are looking forward to meeting you all going forward!

Rose Cotter joined the I.H.S. as an Administrative Assistant in August 2016 and assists the team in a number of areas, including support for conferences and events, database maintenance, membership and fundraising administration.   Before joining the Society she was a senior executive assistant/database administrator with UCD Alumni Relations for ten years and, prior to that, a member of the accounts receivable team at American multi-national Software Spectrum. She has a BA in History & Geography from UCC and a Masters in Information & Library Studies from UCD. She is from the Rebel County (aka The People’s Republic of Cork) and enjoys travelling, walking, galleries and museums, exploring hidden Dublin and reading.

Paula Houlihan joined the I.H.S as an Administrative Assistant in August 2016 and will be working in the area of social media and publications. Paula will also be looking after the logistics of the apartment facility for members. Paula was born and raised in Canada to Polish parents before relocating back to Poland. At the age of 16 Paula moved once more with her parents and found herself here in Ireland. Since then she has worked within many healthcare settings including a nursing home, GP and dental practice, chiropody centre and a dermatology clinic. Paula is looking forward to getting involved and joining the team at the Irish Haemophilia Society and is extremely excited for this new chapter in her busy life.

This year, the camp will take place between the 3rd - 6th November. Canoeing, archery, pottery, arts and crafts, horse-riding, rock climbing, music - the list goes on with activities at Barretstown! If you have any queries about the camps, please contact Fiona on 01 657 9900 or email fiona@haemophilia.ie.
Become a volunteer!
At the I.H.S we are always looking for an extra pair of hands. Our events and conferences would not be the same without our amazing volunteers who help the kids have as much fun as possible! Not only is it extremely rewarding but the friendships that have grown among volunteers and members over the years is priceless. If you would like to lend a hand, get some work experience and have a whole lot of fun, click here to register!
Educational Grants
It is that time of year again when students are looking to start or continue their studies at university. With books, transport, laptops, accommodation and a ream of other costs that come with college life, we understand it is not financially easy for anyone. The I.H.S offer educational grants to students with bleeding disorders and also to family members of those with bleeding disorders. For more information on the criteria for applying and to register for a grant, please click here.

Closing date for applications is Friday 30th of September.
