Think Spring!

Dear Friend of Robert Edson Swain Architecture + Design,
Rainclouds and cooler temperatures will soon give way to our beautiful spring and summer seasons; it's time to start thinking about gardens!  With this in mind, we'd like to introduce you to two of our beautiful garden landscape projects.

Meydenbauer Bay Garden
This lakefront garden in Bellevue, Washington provides a variety of dense landscape experiences from the street down to a pier on Lake Washington.  Pathways with herbs, flowers, a cascading stream and fishpond, and waterfalls provide a place for reflective pause.  Large parking areas were reduced and double as patio entertainment spaces to maximize space for luxuriant plantings.  Views in the garden are developed and managed to provide maximum privacy while preserving sight lines to the beautiful lake.  A full description and project images are posted on our website, robertedsonswain.com - Meydenbauer Bay Garden

A woodland entrance path, a "zipper" granite walkway, arcs through towering Douglas firs, a canopy of vine maples, and an abundance of ferns and ground cover blanket the garden floor.

Bold benches of Douglas fir invite contemplation at the edge between an entertainment terrace and the reflective fishpond.  The open space created by pond and terrace symbolizes the garden transitioning to Lake Washington.

Madison Park Residence Landscape
The design transforms underutilized outdoor space into intimate courtyards, walking paths, and private reflective gardens for the pleasure, activities, and privacy of the client.  Inviting gates, copper and concrete water features, bold street-front textures, stone walking paths, and shady sitting areas create rich transitions from street and alley to interior spaces.  Coupled with a palette of Douglas fir, Katsura, Japanese Snowbell, Vine Maple, Dogwood trees and a diverse Asian inspired understory, the composition provides intimate views of the abundant landscape from within the home.  All this combines to provide comfort and refuge from a busy nearby intersection.  A full description and project images are posted on our website, robertedsonswain.com - Madison Park Residential Landscape
