NPQs Information Bulletin

We have been working hard to support schools with our new Early Career Teachers, launching the new Early Career Framework Training. With so many changes and so much information being shared at a busy time of year, we wanted to offer a quick spotlight on the new suite of NPQs. We hope the digest below is useful to schools in navigating the process and addresses a few of the FAQs we get from schools.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the team.

KEY ACTIONS: A Quick Checklist for Schools
  • Check 1: Have you looked at the information about the new NPQs? There are some key changes this year with the introduction of three new specialist NPQs, different delivery models and assessment requirements.
    • An Overview of the Reformed NPQs: CLICK HERE for key information and a summary of changes for the new suite of NPQs.
    • Education Development Trust: If you are looking to work with the Spencer TSH, we have partnered with the Education Development Trust as a lead provider. CLICK HERE to find out more.
  • Check 2: Have you looked at the information about scholarship funding eligibility? The DfE have shared the new scholarship funding criteria - CLICK HERE. Previous funding criteria no longer applies and schools are advised to check.
    • Scholarship Funding: The other courses will be free to access for schools in the the top 30th percentile in relation to pupils on Pupil Premium as of the end of the previous academic year. This will change annually but at present, this lies within the 25% and above PP numbers.
    • Free for All State Schools: Two courses will be free to all participants in state funded schools - Leading Teacher Development and the NPQH  (when within your first 2 years of headship)
  • Check 3: Have you registered for NPQs on the DfE portal? Once you have decided on NPQ programmes, funding options and your provider, teachers register on the DfE portal CLICK HERE - This is the first formal step where the DfE collates key information and confirms details. This is then sent to the lead providers and they follow up with the next stage of the application process. CLICK HERE for a walkthrough of the portal and step by step guidance - stop and play the video as you need.
  • FAQ: Who do I say is the lead provider? For schools looking to work with Spencer Teaching School Hub, please record 'Education Development Trust' as your lead provider. Following this, EDT will confirm which delivery partner you would like to work with which is Spencer TSH.
What happens once we have submitted an application? The DfE confirms the funding arrangements (whether scholarship or self-funded) and then in turn hands the application over the the lead provider. For Spencer TSH this is the Education Development Trust. They then require applicants complete a full application process to assess suitability for the NPQs. Those who are successful are notified and at that point the Hub will be notified also. We would recommend that schools ensure that participants complete the application process to secure a place as this will go directly to their email address.

What is the deadline? 3rd October (EDT Deadline)
When will the NPQs start? From November

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the team. We are pleased to help.
