RSRC Response to COVID-19

Dear Rio Members, Friends and Guests,

Rio Salado Rowing Club's Board of Directors met April 4th and decided to continue suspension of all Club activities, classes and programs in an effort to protect our community and slow the spread of the COVID19 virus. The issue will be re-assessed on May 2nd.

The Board unanimously supported this action in order to minimize risk and exposure for our members and to do our part in the community effort under way to mitigate the spread of COVID19.

To reiterate, all scheduled classes and events are cancelled.  Teamstuff, our practice schedule app, already reflects this.  Open row certified members may continue to use singles only, adhering to the highest hygiene and disinfecting procedures.

While we know times are tough for many of us, Rio still has fixed expenses that will not shut off during this period. If any of us are able to continue the regular monthly class payments, despite the shutdown, that would be a huge help in keeping Rio on its feet.

This is not happy news for any of us, but we feel it is the right decision.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

RSRC Member Erg Borrowing program

(For those who just can’t get enough of the pain cave!)

Description automatically generated

If you can’t pick out which person is using the erg correctly, stop reading.

Rio is able to get our ergs from Ability 360, which is closed due to the COVID19 pandemic.

We are making our ergs available to members who want to “borrow” them during the club closure. Here’s the scoop:

If more than six people want to borrow the ergs we will hold a lottery.

Borrowing period is two weeks.  If there is a waitlist to borrow, we will take turns, otherwise the borrower can keep it longer.

The borrower is responsible to pick the erg up from the boathouse, including arranging access to the boathouse, and then either return it to the boathouse or arrange the transfer with the next borrower (If applicable).

Borrower is responsible for keeping the erg in good condition, and must store it inside or in a garage.  Borrower will pay for any expense incurred due to damage. Borrower will clean the erg before returning it.

Borrower agrees to use at their own risk.

If you want to participate, email Board member Claus Hetzer at

by Saturday, April 18, 5:00pm to submit your name.

We will notify you by Sunday if you got an erg.

Dear Rio Members,

A Google group has been created so that we all can stay in touch, post workout challenges, and generally do all the social things we've been missing, only from a distance. The group is invitation only to preserve privacy, so email to receive an invite!
