Change is definitely in the air! We're delighted to let you know about some exciting additions to Legacy.

In September we welcomed two new staff members—Keri Sharpe, Executive Director, and Mary Jane (MJ) Block, Conservation Director.

At our Annual General Meeting in October the board elected three new members. Welcome to Lori-Jo Graham, Robert (Bob) Griebel and Karen Grudeski.

Keri Sharpe
Executive Director

It’s hard to believe I have been here almost two months. I hope I am getting a handle on all the parts of the Executive Director’s job.

I have really enjoyed meeting the board members either in person or via Zoom (thanks to COVID). I love the enthusiasm and energy I get to work with.

We have had a rapid-fire series of meetings to kick things off. In October we: launched our 2021 calendar, had an executive team meeting, held a virtual AGM, did a new board orientation session and my first board meeting.

I am also working on getting all committees to meet with me and the three new board members before the end of November. Once we have this all underway, we can get on with planning for 2021.

I have also been lucky enough to get out of the office to see some prospective and existing conservation properties. I look forward to getting out more and meeting more of the supporters and friends of Legacy.

I am so glad to have joined this great group and look forward to learning more about all the activities Legacy Land Trust Society is involved with besides meetings!

Mary Jane (MJ) Block
Conservation Director

My first month here has flown by quickly. There is still a ton to learn, but I am loving it!

I have had a couple fantastic days touring conservation properties on the banks of the Red Deer River from Blackfalds to Bergen. We are so blessed to live in this beautiful area!

I have also been so impressed and awed by the amazing supporters we have, from our Donors to our Board of Directors and other incredible Volunteers. Your dedication to your communities is inspiring.

I look forward to meeting and working with each and every one of you. Here’s hoping for some more warm fall days, getting the last bit of crop off, a few more walks in the leaves and then (much later) a mild winter. Fingers crossed. 😊

Survival

For most of history, man has had to fight nature to survive; in this century he is beginning to realize that, in order to survive, he must protect it.
