Good Morning, Campaign for Hoosier Families Member!

Senate Bill 423 will be heard in the Judiciary Committee of the Indiana House TODAY at 10:30 AM.

This is the bill that would prevent all Indiana colleges and universities that receive federal or state funding from implementing sanctuary policies. The bill offers no benefit to our educational institutions and only serves to make undocumented students and other immigrants on campuses across the state feel more vulnerable. As the bill has already passed in the Senate, it is essential that we speak out now to oppose this legislation.

What you can do:
  • ATTEND the hearing if possible. If you are an educator or student, especially at an institution that would be affected, it is especially vital that you show your support. We are not recommending undocumented students attend, so the voices of allies are even more crucial. Even if you do not testify, showing up in solidarity makes an important statement.
  • CALL the members of the Judiciary Committee before the meeting and tell them you do not support the bill (see numbers below). You can use the following script: "Hello, my name is ________. I am a concerned constituent from (YOUR CITY), Indiana. I am calling Representative _______ to urge him/her to vote NO on SB 423. I expect him/her to listen to the many institutions and people voicing their opposition to this bill that targets law-abiding undocumented students. I support our Indiana undocumented students and their right to feel safe and supported in our post-secondary educational institutions. We will hold Representative ______ accountable and will consider his/her action when he/she is up for re-election."
Thank you for your support of immigrant rights in our community!
