October was a beautiful month for River Lights! We enjoyed getting together and creating a video for World Singing Day. You can see the beautiful job that Dee and Megan did in creating this fun video showing our chorus on our Facebook page!

We have been blessed to continue meeting in person, Covid safe with masks and distancing. We are looking forward to November and singing holiday music at our Winter Wonderland Event.

We hope to see you there!!

Sending all our love to our sisters region wide!

What a fun October Mission Valley had! Lots of planning, lots of singing and a real, live coaching session with Deke Sharon! He’s an energetic and fun-loving coach that wants to make a difference in people’s lives through singing. We spent the day with him learning how to reach an audience, keep the tempo in your body, find the power of “soft”, and how to sing with abandon. Deke, "the father of contemporary a cappella", is an arranger, composer, director, television producer, and singer.  He was born and raised in San Francisco and sang with a group called the House Jacks. If you haven’t heard them, jump on YouTube and have a listen…wow!

Diana France presented Angela, our esteemed Director, with an unusual gift for her birthday. She will have her favorite cheeses delivered every month for a year! How’s that for creativity! She also received a black, sparkly birthday sash claiming that it, indeed, is her birthday!!  Then, we celebrated by having her favorite burnt almond cake after chorus.

Becky brought the makings for the centerpieces to rehearsal to demonstrate how easy they are to make. Why? Because we are gearing up for our 15th annual Jingle Bell Tea on Saturday, December 4. Guests can participate in person and via Zoom. Tickets are available through our website,  No food or beverages will be served, and seating is limited.  Get your tickets early!

Of course we celebrated Halloween!  We already were wearing masks, so all we needed were costumes.  And the costumes came out in abundance, both in person and those Zooming in to rehearsal.   Those who dressed as themselves were appointed judges of costumes, and Sai Champion claimed the prize in her spider wings and makeup.  You can check out Sai on our FaceBook page.  Here are some of the other costumes.

Angela M. Sanders was our October author chat guest. She is the author of the Joanna Hayworth Vintage Clothing mysteries and the Booster Club Capers.  Our chat with her veered off into an interesting discussion of art--and witches.

Reader’s Chat on November 15th - Carol Gerwitz will be hosting the reverse of an author's chat--a reader's chat. Zoom in, tell us about a book you’ve read: name, author, genre and any remarks you have about the book. You’ll be limited to 3 minutes so everyone will have a chance to participate. This sounds like fun!

…til next time!
SACRAMENTO VALLEY CHORUS is putting one foot in front of the other. This month was all about practicing the skills that Dede taught/reviewed while we were previously on Zoom. We loved coming back together and hearing our voices live again! The feeling of togetherness on the risers is newly appreciated, and joyful singing is filling us up once again.

This month we had to say a tearful good-bye to one of our mentors, a teacher and dear friend, Shirley Kout. Shirley will be moving to Indiana to be near family. She has been a part of the Sweet Adelines organization for over 60 years as a director, coach, international sound judge, region 12 faculty, voice teacher, and more. Shirley has been our beloved coach and friend this past 6 years, and we will definitely miss her. She will always be near and dear to our hearts.

While our director took a much-deserved vacation, we had TWO section rehearsals this month. Our section leaders did a great job keeping us focused and guiding us toward a more unit sound. Many thanks to these dedicated leaders who are always willing to step up and meet the challenge at hand!

SOS has had a great autumn so far and apparently, our Sonoma County rain dance was wildly successful, which moved us indoors for rehearsals.

Fortunately, we can all sport our fantastic singing masks, and we extend huge thanks to the Region for coordinating the ordering of these!

October has also put us in the holiday mood, and we had fun combining a Halloween celebration with work on our holiday season repertoire, better known as “jinglespookery.” Having missed all of our seasonal caroling last year, we have dusted off those lively holiday songs, and we eagerly anticipate performing them again. While tempted to substitute the word “rain” for “snow,” we have been very happy to make it through this very tricky month with only treats. We continue to love our new venue, the Luther Burbank Center for the Performing Arts.

OCC has had an interesting summer.  Covid restricted our attempts at in-person rehearsals for most of the summer.  We had one in-person rehearsal in August, but right after that a new local outbreak forced us back to Zoom.  Then a series of Covid events locally kept us on Zoom until the end of October.
Finally, in October we were able to start gathering again.  A small group of us spent World Singing Day preparing sale items for a local Holiday Bazaar.  This is an annual fundraiser for the chorus as well as a very fun event.  Who doesn’t love a good Christmas Bazaar?

Then on October 28th we were able to have an in-person, indoor rehearsal at our usual rehearsal venue.  We are working on our performance skills along with singing and just enjoying being together.  It was amazing to sing together without a song track, and we did it without even realizing it.

Next for us is to perfect our holiday package.  We have a couple of performances scheduled for outdoor tree lighting ceremonies in local communities as well as one indoor performance.  We are looking forward to those and then starting the New Year singing together again.
Hello from Northern California!  We are happy to have received over 10" of rain in October, marking the end of fire season (whew!) and a break from the drought. We are still conserving, but the future looks good for our farmers and vineyards.

October marked the month PEC starting singing indoors. Yahoo! We started with warmups and vocals out in our courtyard until  sunset, and then we moved indoors. We have several members who are also joining us weekly on Zoom. The anticipation was in the air, and there were tears shed when we walked in the building and sang those first notes on our favorite risers. Special thanks to our Visual Team for getting us back in shape with fun warm-ups. Our Membership Team is back to work, too, and we had our first guest in person. She is excited to join us. Welcome, Gloria!

As the 2019 Champions, we had planned for contest in Kentucky, then we hoped for St. Louis, and now it looks like Phoenix, AZ in 2022? Patty planned 2 weeks of fun for our would-be International Contest week. The Wednesday before contest, we worked and performed our 1st Internationals set, and then the Wednesday after contest ,we had a Queen Theme Night to celebrate our Queen Performance Package. It was so fun to dress up and sing our Queen package! We had a costume contest, and it was a 4-way tie, with some awesome Freddies in the house!

PEC is proud to continue our work on our two packages in hopes of representing Region 12 in an International Contest coming soon. Thank you for all the well wishes and fun cards we have received. Time to get to work!
The end of the year approaches - we're solidly in the middle of autumn now. October brought us a wonderful opportunity to sing in person - for an audience! A group of our members sang in a park in Sunnyvale with two other choruses and a quartet for World Singing Day on October 16. This is an annual celebration to gather people together to sing, so we had some great sing-along songs for our lovely and supportive audience. We also got to perform some of our music for this group of folks.  The same day, a handful of members performed for a memorial service for a former member,  Lou Shoaf.

We have begun focusing on our holiday repertoire for the latter part of our rehearsals.  We plan to perform a holiday show for friends and family in early December,  so it's been great to dust off this music now that we are back to rehearsing in person.

We celebrated Halloween at our last rehearsal of the month with a fun costume parade for those who dressed up.  We have had a large turnout of guests this month,  and some of them joined in the holiday spirit.

Here's hoping that all of our regional family is happy and  healthy!
