September 2015

Our AIM weekend host chorus, Song of Sonoma, definitely came up with an appropriate theme for our weekend – “Region 12 - On A Roll”. With 4 choruses competing at International in Las Vegas this October, along with our first place quartet, Surprise!, we are on a roll and our September AIM weekend promises to be well attended. According to the information I received from the DoubleTree, as of August 25, 2015, there are 450 Sweet Adelines registered for hotel rooms.

The cutoff date to register to attend AIM as well as to make hotel reservations is this coming Friday – Friday, September 4, 2015.  If you have yet to make reservations, I suggest you do so now as there are very few rooms left in our block. You may be told that our block is full, but fear not!  If you make your reservation by the cutoff date, and you are informed that there are no longer any rooms available in our block, please call the DoubleTree direct at (916) 929-8855 to see if there are any rooms available at their sister hotel – The Hilton, as you have been informed that the Sweet Adeline block is full. The Hilton is located across the freeway from the Doubletree. The cost of a room will still be at our block rate ($98.00) and you still will have free parking at both hotels. At check in at the Hilton, ask for a parking pass for their lot. When parking at the DoubleTree, you will get a parking ticket when entering their parking area and will need to have that ticket validated at our registration area. If you try to make a hotel reservation after our cutoff date, you may not be able to get a room at either hotel.
The DoubleTree’s management has assured me they want to be of assistance in making sure that you have a successful stay at their hotel and that they want to help you stay on track with our tight schedule. In addition to the selections off their standard menu, for our group, they will provide a dinner buffet on both Friday and Saturday evenings at $16.95 plus tax and a lunch buffet on Saturday at $14.95 plus tax. You will also be able to get “to go” food at their cash and carry bar located just outside the entrance into the restaurant.
I’m thrilled that so many of you will be attending our AIM weekend.  Not only will you get fabulous coaching from Lori Lyford, but you also will have a weekend filled with fabulous 4-part harmony with your Region 12 Sweet Adeline friends!
See you soon!

More AIM Updates

PVI and Quartet Coaching Signups are Filled

Due to the heavy demand for PVIs and quartet coaching, all our available time slots during AIM weekend are now filled. Our Regional faculty will be busy meeting the existing demand. We’re sorry we just don’t have enough people, rooms, or time to accommodate any more requests. Try again earlier, next AIM weekend!

Calling All Arrangers and Arranger Wanna-Bes!
Saturday afternoon of AIM, at 4:30 near the entrance to the hotel restaurant, find Chris Jacobs, Regional Arranging Program Manager, and let’s talk about how to re-energize our Region 12 Arrangers’ Program. Whether you’re an experienced arranger or just want to know more about it, let Chris know so we can build something to suit your needs and help keep those future arrangements coming! Can’t make this meeting? Contact Chris at and share your thoughts.

Every September we have the opportunity to help support those quartet singers who will represent us at the upcoming International Convention.  This year there are five such singers, the four members of our current Region 12 champion quartet Surprise - Jennifer Mayhew, Melany Schmitt-Huston, Roxanne Kolbe and Janet Eisen - and also Erin Basile of the Region 21 champion quartet, Delilah.
Your chance to help them and to win an all-events ticket with VIP seating at our 2016 convention in Reno, as well as the privilege of presenting roses to next year's 1st place quartet is upon us.  Each of our choruses has H.O.W. tickets available so see your Help Our Winners chair and be sure to get yours.
The winners will be announced at the pep rally, Saturday evening of our AIM weekend.  You need not be present to win so be sure to get your tickets even if you are not able to be with us for the event.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at

More Singing!

Every AIM weekend we get the comment that you want to do more singing, so this September we’ve added a mini-Mass Sing on Saturday at 3:30, with several Region 12 directors taking turns. We’ll be singing these songs from the Mass Sing Songbook (not necessarily in this order):
  • Harmonize the World
  • How We Sang Today
  • I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing
  • Send Your Love
  • San Francisco Bay Blues
  • That’s What Friends Are For
Need a copy of the Mass Sing Songbook? Copies will be available at the Registration desk, a bargain at just $10.
Want to review a couple of these songs ahead of time? You can download the sheet music being sung at the September AIM Weekend Mini-Mass Sing in either of these ways:
  1. From the AIM Weekend registration page, click the Other Info box at the top.
  2. In the Members Only area of the Regional website, go to the Music tab and choose Sheet Music.
The Other Info box will also take you to the link for the Tag Book that Fresco and Verve will be using, if you want to do some quartetting during the weekend!
NOTE: Please download, print, and bring only the music you need. The Region pays for every copy accessed on the website.
Want a learning track? Choose either of these ways:

  5. Go to the location on your computer where you stored the file. Copy or move it to your phone or other playback device.

SVC Sizzles in the Summer!

Sacramento Valley Chorus does indeed sizzle during the summer- in more ways than one! While trying to beat the heat the past few months, Sacramento Valley Chorus has been busy getting ready for our big return to the international stage in October in Las Vegas! We have been working hard, with multiple coaching sessions with some of the best in the biz- from the always-energetic Cindy Hansen, to the unstoppable Martha Segura and the tremendous Dale Syverson, we could not soak up enough talent and knowledge from these wonderful women. How lucky we are to be able to work with them, and take their grains of wisdom and expertise with us from here on forward!

Alongside coaching, we had several performances in the Sacramento area- we had a stellar performance at the California State Fair in July, as well as a fabulous Viva Las Vegas Friends & Family Show this past weekend to send us off in style to international. We are so grateful for the support of not only our friends and family, but also for our Region 12 family who has come to support SVC over the years. We cannot thank you enough! With AIM weekend just around the corner, we are excited once again to perform for the region and showcase our talented members!

Director Search

Delta Harmony Express has begun the search for a new Director. Terrie Carrozzella has accepted a position with Sierra Gold Chapter and we wish them both a successful collaboration.  DHX is a small chorus but is seeking to grow in the coming year.  Inquiries can be directed to JoAnne Talbot at 209-478-2664 or

Sierra Gold News

As Sierra Gold celebrates our 20 year anniversary this year, we want to let Region 12 know we are looking forward to a new chapter in our chorus life.

We owe a very heartfelt thank you to our friend and fellow singer, Patty Easley, for being willing to take over as director in January, take us to contest in May, and continue to lead and plan for our future until we hired a new director.  We would not be where we are now if she hadn’t stepped up to help, and we are forever grateful for her dedication, support and encouragement. THANK YOU, PATTY!

It was also our privilege and pleasure to have 3 Region 12 directors pick up the gauntlet for 3 weeks in August while Patty took some vacation time. We would like to thank Julie Starr, Barbara Vander Putten and Lynne Erickson for taking the time and effort to come to our rehearsals and work with us. They were not only great coaching sessions, but were so fun and interesting we’d love to do it again. Based on our experience, we feel it would be very rewarding to have a director exchange program in the region.

And now, Sierra Gold would like to announce that Terrie Carrozzella has accepted the position of director. She will begin her tenure on September 14, 2015.  Terrie is a long time Sweet Adeline, currently a member of Sacramento Valley Chorus and most recently director of Delta Harmony Express.  We are very excited to have her join us and bring her expertise, enthusiasm and musical knowledge and background to share with us as we move ahead.
