Message from the Board

2021-22 has been a busy year for the Porters Lake Business Association (PLBA). We hosted our very first in-person event with Porters Lake Business Block Party at the Super Store parking lot on October 2nd and, we continued with our Remembrance and Christmas banner projects. The PLBA also hosted the meet your candidate forums for both the Provincial and Federal elections that were held in the early fall of 2021.

In the spring of 2021 PLBA received support from ACOA, HRM and the provincial government to develop a district improvement plan for the Business Corridor in Porters Lake. The consulting firm of WSP was engaged and the plan was completed and accepted by the Board in March of 2022. This plan will be used to help initiate future development in the area and will help us in promoting Porters Lake as a great place to live and an even better place to do business.

After a busy and successful year, we are looking forward to what 2022-23 has to offer.

Annual General Meeting

The Porters Lake Business Association would like to invite you to our

Annual General Meeting:

Date: Monday, June 27, 2022

Time: 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm

Location: CBDC Blue Water Office, 61 Stella Drive, Porters Lake

All members welcome! Light refreshments will be served

Business Block Party

The PLBA is currently planning our 2022 Business Block Party! We are looking forward to a great day of activities, free food, and live music! We are currently working on finalizing a date and schedule, so stay tuned for more information.

Once the day and time is finalized, the news will be posted on our social media and an email will be sent out, so keep your eyes peeled!

Pop Up Movie Night

Our board is hoping to plan a pop-up movie night in Porters Lake this summer! We are currently looking for a day and time, so stay tuned for further details.

*If you would like to get involved in the planning process for one or more of our events, please reach out to us! We will happily accept any help or suggestions, whether it be providing sponsorship, helping us with refreshments or prizes to give away, and even with ideas for our next event.

PLBA Member Feedback Survey

In order to best serve our members and community, we are asking our BID members and Associate members to fill out a quick survey (Approx. 5 minutes) in order to give us some feedback on what we’re doing correctly, and where we can improve our services.

New Grant Opportunities

Canadian Digital Adoption Program (CDAP)

As part of the Canada Digital Adoption Program, the New Brunswick Association of CBDCs has partnered with Digital Main Street and their ShopHERE powered by Google program to deliver the Grow Your Business Online grant to small businesses across the country.

Eligible businesses will receive a micro-grant of up to $2,400 to help with the costs related to adopting e-commerce and supported by a network of e-commerce advisors.

Infrastructure Improvement Plan Update

Exciting next steps are underway with the Infrastructure Improvement Plan! We are finalizing a date in order to present the plan and our recommendations to the Halifax Regional Municipality’s Transportation Standing Committee.

We are expecting to be able to pitch our presentation to the HRM in mid-late June, and will give you an update when that comes.

Highway 7 Banners (Remembrance Day)

After two years, we are updating our Remembrance Day pole banners! a new design is in the works and are offering sponsorship opportunities.

Sponsorship is open to both member businesses and the general public. If you or someone you know is interested, sponsorship cost is $350. To sponsor a banner, please contact us at the link below or send us an email at porterslakebusinessassociation@gmail.com.

If you have a veteran in mind that you would like to see featured on a banner, and have a high quality picture of, we are also accepting new submissions. Please contact us to join our waiting list, and we’ll reach out to you.
