From the 92nd House District November/December Newsletter
Happy New Year!!
It was an honor to have been named Chair-Designee of the House of Delegates Commerce and Labor Committee!
This marks thefirst time in 23 years that a Democrat has been Chair of the committee that’s the gatekeeper for laws on employment, workers compensation, utility regulation, telecommunications, insurance and financial services.
On Wednesday, December 18, I attended the Rise for Youth Healthy Communities Secure Care Legislation Press Conference in Richmond, Virginia. It was an honor to stand alongside my esteemed colleagues, Mr. James Braxton, Delegate Betsy Carr, and Valerie Slater, Esquire.
RISE for Youth is a nonpartisan campaign committed to dismantling the youth prison model by promoting the creation of community-based alternatives to youth incarceration. Their work centers the voices of impacted youth and communities, and challenges racial injustice in Virginia.
The purpose of this press conference was to announce my Co-Patron, Delegate Betsy Carr, discuss the challenges African American youth face today, the importance of community based solutions, and different ways to reduce recidivism.
