Aloha Friend of Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai'i,
To kick off the new year, we spent January celebrating our Bigs across the islands for National Mentoring Month. We are incredibly grateful to all of our dedicated volunteers for their passion and commitment to being positive role-models to our keiki in need.
In addition, we extend a BIG mahalo to everyone in our 'Ohana as well. Mentorship is universal and can be demonstrated in many different ways through various types of relationships. A mentor can be a parent, sibling, colleague, teacher, coach, or anyone you look to for guidance.
In this last day of National Mentoring Month, we encourage you to take the time to thank the mentors in your life. As a former Little Brother, I pay tribute to my late Big Brother, Henry Sumida. Without him, I would not be the person I am today.

Hawai‘i County Mayor, Harry Kim, proclaimed January 31st to be Mentoring Day in Hawai‘i County. The Hawai‘i County Council also recognized that January is National Mentoring Month at their meeting in Kona on January 23rd.

Big Sister Laura and Little Sister Cheyenne celebrated their 3rd match anniversary in January! To mark their special occasion, Regional Director, Vanessa Carlson, presented Laura and Cheyenne with the Big and Little Dipper bracelets designed specifically for Big Brothers Big Sisters by Alex & Ani. Cheyenne has had such a positive experience in the program that she became a Big herself! |

Thank you to Sean Stogner and the Kaua‘i Backcountry Adventures team for donating a fun tubing adventure for 40 of our Bigs & Littles! The groups experienced a floating adventure through the fresh mountain waterways while getting to see the breathtaking views of the garden island. |

Kaua‘i Community-Based match of over three years, Big Sister Dynah and Little Sister Justyce, whipped up some tasty sweet treats at a chocolate making class during their last match outing.

(L-R) Sydney, Kassidy, and Jesy graduated from Castle High School and our Holomua Mentoring Program last Spring. In January, they got together with Program Coordinator, Margaret Cadiz, and excitingly shared about their first semester experiences as college students. We are so proud and excited to see what they will accomplish in the future!

The Holomua Mentoring Program did a Dreamboard workshop hosted by Aloha Dreamboard. We were fortunate enough to use the Key Project facility and all the Bigs and Littles had a fun time mapping out their goals for the future. This was the perfect way for the Holomua Mentoring Program to start off the new year! |
