"As a Board Member and Chair, I’ve had the opportunity to observe the programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i and attend the national conference of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. The excitement of all its members and how the Staff truly cares and takes their job seriously is inspiring. It’s really incredible to bear witness and know that there are countless people across the nation that care about such an important cause."

It was four days of fun during Spring Break in our Mentor Center Program! The youth helped out with spring cleaning and garden prep work around the center. They also watched a movie, played basketball and volleyball, and painted. But the highlight of the week was going swimming at the Sakamoto Pool. Mahalo to the Maui County Aquatics Team for having us. It was a blast!

It’s been a privilege supporting health and wellness for our community’s youth this month. Thank you to the University of Hawaii Maui College (UHMC) for having us at the Nani Ke Ola Wellness Fair and to Baldwin High School for inviting us to be a part of your Career & Health Fair.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! School-Based Mentoring Program matches made ice cream using Ziploc bags, vanilla, half-half, sugar, ice, and kosher salt. Big and Littles either shook the bags on their own, passed it to one another, or made up their own moves (e.g. "The Jackhammer"). Mahalo to Hawaiian Agents for donating the yummy ice cream cones!

A BIG shout-out to Lance Tanaka and Kendra McBride-Nelson for leading a special, exclusive, extended Kuhio Day holiday tour of their PAR Hawaii refinery. There was a lot of interesting information shared about how oil is harvested, stored, transported and processed into fuel for automobiles, tractors, jets and other vehicles.

Mahalo to the Veterans United Foundation and employees of Veterans United Home Loans for choosing to support Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i with a $1,000 grant! A large number of the individuals we serve are active-duty military and veterans, or children of active-duty military and veterans. So from all of us, thank you!
