Aloha Friend of Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai'i,

This past month was one for the books! We embarked on new and fun learning experiences for our matches while taking a moment to recognize our amazing 'ohana.

I was completely honored and humbled by the recognition of my 20 years of service with Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i during our organization's celebration. What I have learned in my time here is that is truly takes a village.

Thank you for your continued generosity, support, and contributions - you make our mission come to life.

With gratitude and aloha,

Dennis Brown
President / CEO
(and Hawaii's first "Little Brother")
Meet our Match Maker of the Month: Alan Schlissel

"The monthly giving program makes donating so easy and painless. It truly is easier to give one electronic, reoccurring, monthly donation than it is a lump sum payment yearly.  Since it is being automatically debited from my bank account on a monthly basis, there is no time element involved. Also, its environmentally healthier (no needed mail communications/solicitations), and it allows BBBSH to better budget the costs related to making and monitoring the matches."
Alan is a former Board Member and has been a Match Maker since November 2014. Join Alan and help change a life by becoming a Match Maker!
To celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week, matches at our Waiakea site participated in an anti-bullying awareness session. They learned to counter negative behavior with kindness and committed to taking a stand against bullying. Pictured above are some of our Bigs and Littles with their #takeastand signs.
Join H.O.T. on March 2nd & 3rd in Hilo for some COOL music with proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawai‘i Island.
Congratulations to Big Sister Sara and Little Sister Aries who just celebrated their 1-year match anniversary!
Mahalo to G. N. Wilcox Trust for supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kauai’s mentoring programs throughout 2017! We could not make local keiki’s dreams come true without your help.

Maui Mentor Center hosted an Open House for the children of our afterschool program and their families. It was a fun evening filled with great conversation, crafts, and ono grinds. Mahalo to Takamiya Market for donating the smoked pork poke for the event!
Mahalo Lily & Elyssa of the Maui Ocean Center for visiting all four of our School-Based mentoring sites this month. Pictured are Big Sister Sokha and Little Sister Shaylynn with various types of sea creatures. Matches got to take home a bookmark, activity book, and a fossilized shark tooth!
On February 23rd, we gathered together at The Manifest to celebrate and thank our amazing Staff, Boards, and 2017 Match Makers with ono catering from Jojo's Kitchen. We also honored President/CEO, Dennis Brown, for his 20 years of service to Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i. Click HERE to watch a special dedication video from Congresswoman, Tulsi Gabbard.
The Holomua Mentoring Program learned how Sweet Creams was developed by its co-founders, Jeffrey Kao and Bari Carroll. We got an inside look at how their rolled ice cream is made and even got to taste a couple samples.
The Hawaii Bowl Foundation has raised over $1,000,000 primarily for local charities since its inception! We are grateful for the support to help match the current children on our waitlist with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, particularly youth that are of Hawaiian or Pacific Islander descent.
From kickballs to musubi makers and jump ropes to foam art kits – we are grateful to the Hickam Officers’ Spouses’ Club for helping us purchase supplies for mentoring activities! Mahalo from all of our grateful Bigs and Littles!
