Dear Friend of Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai'i,

WOW - what a month of fun events!

We hosted the first annual Miniature Golf Tournament on Maui, which raised over $11,000 and was attended by more than 120 people - "it was one bad mamma-jamma!" says Maui Executive Director, JD Wyatt.

On Oahu we got grooooovy with over 1,500 bowlers and 60 sponsors at the Disco Bowl for Kids' Sake on September 10 & 17. We also practiced our golf claps with our partners at the Finance Factors Golf Tournament on September 22. Mahalo to everyone who sponsored, participated, coordinated, and volunteered, as well as to those who continue to fundraise...we are just $10K short of our $300K goal!

In other news, we are excited to announce that we are growing! In September we welcomed two new staff members to bring our Hawaii Island team total to four. We are excited to see the great work they will do.

Finally, we need your help on Oahu. Do you know any adults who may be interested in being lunch buddies with students at Stevenson Middle School or online mentors for teens at Castle High School? Please contact Tyler at tkurashige@bbbshawaii.org for more information.

With aloha,
Dennis Brown

On Thursday, September 22, Finance Factors hosted another great golf tournament this year to raise $20,000! And, it was a SOLD OUT event! We are grateful for their support, and are so excited to continue this partnership for another TWO YEARS! Mahalo to everyone who helped make this event possible.
In September we hosted a basketball clinic in Hilo and had more than 30 kids participate! Mahalo to our sponsors, Hui Drywall and Kamea Designs, for providing lunch on both days.
Shontaye Reed (pictured above in orange with BBBS staff) collects recyclables and uses the money to buy a TON of school supplies for our kids! We are so grateful!
CONGRATULATIONS to Kaua’i Regional Board Member Mark Oyama who was selected as the Kauai Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Mea Ho’omana’o Award Recipient! We are so proud of Mark and appreciate his support throughout his nearly TEN years of serving on Kauai’s Regional Board.
Mark embodies what is truly means to “Live Aloha!”
High School Bigs and Littles had a chance to visit and tour the Leeward Community College campus on September 24. LCC recruiter Allan Nebrija gave our group some helpful information about financial assistance and scholarships, various programs the college offers, and student benefits including counseling, tutoring, rental/free use of educational material and instruments and other useful services available to students under this University of Hawaii system.
MAHALO to Deb & Ken LaPierre and the Academy Mortgage Corporation of Utah for their generous donation and continued support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kaua’i! In March of 2015 this awesome team held a party for matches and donated school backpacks, office supplies and lots of treats for the kids and in 2016 we are grateful for their support AGAIN so we can support our Bigs and Littles!
Little Brother Christopher received a renewable four-year $500 Kualoa Ranch scholarship as long as he maintains a 2.0 GPA and continues to be a full-time student. Christopher is attending the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan in the Asian Pacific Studies program. Mahalo to Kualoa Ranch for this scholarship!
Little Brother Tyler is the first student from the neighbor islands to receive a $500 Kualoa Ranch scholarship and is attending UH Manoa. Other Littles receiving $500 Kualoa Ranch scholarships include Little Sister Jessica, attending UH Hilo for Hawaiian Studies, and Little Brother Nick, attending  Leeward Community College's IT program. We wish them all the best of luck this year!
