Dear Bigs, Littles, Family, Friends, and Partners,

What a busy summer it has been! As you'll see below, we've hosted a number of fun activities for matches on Hawaii Island, Kauai, Maui and Oahu this past month and have even more events planned for the fall. Mahalo to all our partners for helping us provide low-cost and free activities that our Bigs and Littles can enjoy together.

On Oahu we are gearing up for the Revenge of the Nerds Bowl For Kids' Sake (presented by Alternate Energy) on August 15th and 22nd and we need EVERYONE'S help to reach our $350,000 goal! If you have not already, please consider making a donation here or contact us if you are interested in forming a bowling team. And don't forget to watch this special message from Little Sister Mialyn.

We are so proud of all the hard work our Bigs and Littles are doing to raise money for the Bowl For Kids' Sake. Little Sister Zanae has earned over $200 creating trinkets and baking brownies to sell, as well as recycling Hi-5s to raise money for our program. This past weekend Big Brother Brice and LIttle Brother Larry held a fundraiser selling snacks and shave ice at the Waianae Mall and raised a total of $315.78 in one day! They plan to do this again for the next few weekends so check them out if you're in the area. You can see pictures of these superstars in action below.

Sincere thanks for your support,

Dennis Brown
President / CEO

Hawaii Island Bigs enjoyed playing croquet with Board Member Curt at the Bigs Summer Bash on July 12th hosted at beautiful Mahilani Farms. Attendees even got lucky enough to take home their very own sample of Mahilani Farms delicious honey in the raw! Yummm. Special mahalo to Curtis Beck and Mahilani Farms for hosting us!

On July 11th,  our Big Brothers Big Sisters ohana gave the Locations Foundation a “Standing O” for sponsoring their annual movie day featuring the new Minions movie. Congratulations to Little Sister Zanae for winning the movie day essay contest about what family means to her. The Locations Foundation not only gave us $5,000 at the event but they also generously awarded us a grant for $10,000 to support our mentoring programs!

Bigs and Littles attended a guided hike through Iao Valley with Maui Executive Director JD Wyatt on July 25th. Mahalo to everyone who attended!

Mahalos

Our Maui team received 75 brown bags full of school supplies from the employees of Na Hoaloha ‘Ekolu (Old Lahaina Luau, Aloha Mixed Plate, Star Noodle, Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop, and Hoaloha Farms). This allowed us to provide each child in both our Community and School-Based programs with basic supplies for this school year!
Mahalo to G. N. Wilcox Trust for supporting our Bigs and Littles on Kauai! Pictured here is Kauai Little Sister Angel and Big Sister Taylor who have been matched for two years.
Hawaii Island Bigs and Littles participated in the KTA Kids Day with LOTS of smiling, painted faces! Special mahalo to our tireless volunteers, Skylan and Lauren, for their help and hours of artistry!
Bigs from Kualoa Ranch spent an afternoon pulling nails, sanding and painting horseshoes to sell and raise money for our scholarship program. Kualoa Ranch also hosts an annual Breakfast with Santa event which raises over $8,000 for scholarships for our Littles - mark your calendars for Dec. 12th this year!
Mahalo to Bill Arakaki, Complex Area School Superintendent, sponsors, donors and his team for giving us the opportunity to participate in their Free School Supply Giveaway at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center on July 18th.  Our volunteer matches had a great time face painting and recruiting for new Bigs & Littles!
The Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center hosted two of our Maui matches for their Family Friday event on July 10th. Little Sister Litty learned how to create her very own hand-made paper from surprising materials, which she plans to use for future art projects, scrapbooks, greeting cards, or even frame as its very own masterpiece.
Mahalo to the many golfers who came out to support Kauai United Way’s Annual Golf Tournament! We are honored and grateful to be in partnership with the Kauai United Way again this year!
