We are excited to share what's been going on with Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii across the state and recognize many of our "Bigs of the Year" in both our School-Based and Community-Based mentoring programs. This month we welcome all of the wonderful parents and guardians to our e-newsletter. Please send us any comments or suggestions so we can continue to improve and bring you the most important updates each month.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii Island 
We had a ton of fun celebrating year-end parties and recognizing our Hawaii Island School-Based Big Sister of the Year, Alex, and our Hawaii Island School-Based "Above and Beyond" Big Sister, Erin! We are so thankful for all our Bigs on Hawaii Island!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu
This month we awarded our Oahu School-Based Big Sister of the Year Award to Charlene, a senior from Radford High School. Charlene has been a Big Sister for the past four years at our Makalapa Elementary Mentoring Program, while maintaining a 3.9 GPA and participating in the Japanese Club, Filipino American Club, Tennis Team, Marching Band and Ambassador Bigs Council. Charlene has been a positive role model for her Little Sister Pheby and we wish her the best as she heads to college in the fall!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kauai
We are so excited to announce Big Sister Autumn as our Kauai School-Based Big Sister of the Year and present her with a $250 scholarship check! Click here to see a video of Little Sister Pealani saying how much she appreciated her time with her Autumn, and what an amazing Big Sister she has been!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui
On May 22nd the Volunteer Appreciation Party brought together Bigs from both the Community-Based and School-Based programs, so they could all meet one another and acknowledge their dedication and hard work. We are proud to recognize our Maui Community-Based Bigs of the Year, Katie and Brian, and our Maui School-Based "Above and Beyond" Bigs of the Year, Jessica and Cory!

Mahalos

On May 24th, the 2nd annual Perfect Pairings dinner and wine pairing event featured Master Sommelier Pat Okubo at The Plaza Club. We are thankful to all who attended and donated! Special thanks to Gold Sponsors First Hawaiian Bank, Honolulu Star-Advertiser, and Meadow Gold Dairies and to Bronze Sponsors AON Risk Services, Chun Kerr LLP, and Colliers International for helping us raise over $30,000!
BIG mahalos to Pacific Historic Parks, Kathy Cook and volunteer survivor Jimmy Lee for the inspiring, moving and informative tour of Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memoria.
Three cheers for Team Maui at the annual Hawai'i Lodging & Tourism Association Visitor Industry Charity Walk. Thank you Big Sister Hoku and Little Sister Litty for joining us and showing your support!
We're grateful to be a recipient of Darden's Community Grants program and are proud that our local Darden Restaurant, Yard House, has recognized us as a leader in the community!
Aja Nozaki donated her services and time to coordinate the photo booth and airbrushing body art at Hawaii Island's end-of-the-year mentoring parties. She even managed to insert the Big Brothers Big Sisters logo onto the photo strip print outs for us!
Iolani's Lisa Preston, BBBS President/CEO Dennis Brown, and BBBS Case Manager Sheryl Mita accept a check from The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Incorporated to support the Iolani / Ala Wai afterschool mentoring program!
Aloha Shoyu and Bottling Company provided $2,000 in scholarship money for our deserving high school and college Bigs on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii Island. Big mahalos!
The Kanaka Hekili Motorcycle Club held a Hoku BBQ chicken sale fundraiser on Saturday, May 16th, raising $547 for our mentoring programs. Mahalo to the club and to everyone who participated!
Last Saturday matches on Oahu were treated to a tour of the Waihee Watershed Tunnel thanks to Arthur Aiu and the Board of Water Supply. The tour included a short, easy hike to and from the tunnel, a 1,500-ft. hike inside the tunnel and lunch back at the park. 
Mahalo to DOE Kaua’i Superintendent and Regional Board Member Bill Arakaki and his team for giving us the opportunity to partner with them in serving Kauai’s students; Jan Esaki and the Janitors from Kapa’a Elementary and Erika & Armethia from Kekaha Elementary for working collaboratively to help bring mentor services to their campuses; Waimea and Kapa’a High School staff for their support in recruiting quality and committed mentors; and Major Aguilar from the Waimea ROTC program for encouraging his cadets to serve and making it possible for them to do so!
