Hi Adventure Philanthropists!

I was able to spend the last week with my family here in Florida. Although it flew by, it was go great to see them again, especially my adorable niece and nephews. I am certainly lucky to have such a supportive foundation in my life.

During this same week, families in Baltimore and Nepal were facing crumbling foundations. The death toll keeps rising in Nepal, while the extent of racism and police brutality in America continues to be revealed. Both of these disasters need our support, so this month I will donate to rebuilding efforts in both Nepal and Baltimore.

In terms of disaster relief, I favor donating to longer-term rebuilding efforts and will be making a donation to Give2Asia.org (a former consulting client of mine), which has worked with local organizations in Nepal for decades.

Want to help too? Here’re some organizations for you to check out to: To help rebuild Baltimore, I’ve chosen the Baltimore Community Foundation to be the recipient of my monthly Adventure Philanthropist: More Fear donation. The fund will work to repair the community’s physical and emotional damage and strengthen the city of Baltimore for the future.

And now for the articles this week:

New Post  > My Black Madonna Blessing

One afternoon I headed to Regla, an island in Havana’s harbor, known as the center of Afro-Cuban religion. I went to visit the Church of the Black Virgin and absorb a bit of the island’s Santería atmosphere. I came away with so much more…

Fav Post  > MESSAGEs from Around the World

I have lots of new subscribers to the site this week—Welcome! One of my favorite types of post are the MESSAGEs I write about each country. To date I have 56 in all, from last week’s inside look at Havana to Scotland’s Orkney Islands to Borneo. If you’re planning a summer holiday, be sure and check out the full listing here:

Video of the Week > Of Men and War

Instead of a photo this week, I wanted to share this trailer of a documentary film called Of Men and War. The director, Laurent Bécue-Renard, shot this film at The Pathway Home, a nonprofit and residential treatment center that helps veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars deal with PTSD. The film is part of the San Francisco International Film Festival held on May 3-5. See it if you can; the film is powerful. (Note: The Pathway Home is also a former consulting client.)

Lots going on in the world this week so I hope you get out this weekend to enjoy the simple things in life—a meal shared with family, a walk on a beach, laughter with friends, gazing at the stars…

You pick which will bring you the most joy and Go, Go, Go!

See ya on the road,
