Philadelphia DA Seth Williams Indicted for Bribery
Dear Friend,

I bet Mumia a nickel... then went up to a quarter. Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams was going down. Mumia shook his head, he just did not believe it. “But, you know”, he said, “Seth really crossed the line when he went after Louise Williams Bishop. Everyone grew up with her and loved her. I loved her. The way he is going after Vanessa Lowery Brown, it is ugly.  But, Seth, indicted? Naahh.”

I could just feel an indictment, like a storm, coming down. Because of my personal experience, I knew that Williams was going to be indicted. My dad had gotten taken away in handcuffs from our front door when I was 9, for refusing to wear an FBI wire.

Seth Williams -former head of the Black Student Union, Student Body Class President at Penn State, and fighter against South African Apartheid. Mumia's close friends - organizers at the time at Penn State - rolled with him.  Now, he is a disgraced DA. Williams, like Obama, had promise- but the reality was far uglier. A few examples:
  • Seth Williams has held all juvenile lifers (over 300 from Philadelphia) hostage by denying them relief,  the court ordered relief they received from the highest court in the U.S. Supreme Court. For over six years, he has just spit in the face of the U.S. Supreme Court and refused meaningful resentencing.
  • Williams announced in an election and media ploy the creation of a Conviction Review Unit (CRU). This is an ongoing insult to the hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent folks who have been systematically convicted by the racist DA’s office (current and legacy). Three years ago, Williams announced the CRU, and on February 17 of this year, he finally embarrassed into staffing it.
  • Seth Williams spent his career targeting the poor and people of color, while currying favor with elite power brokers.
In the special election, if Williams resigns, beware of liberals, and check out Larry Krasner.

It has been Philadelphia D.A.'s who have been directly responsible for keeping Mumia in prison, including Ed Rendell, Lynne Abraham, Ronald Castille, and Seth Williams. There's so much more possibility for real freedom when the right questions are being asked. The Trump presidency and Williams under indictment means that things have to change. Mumia Abu-Jamal will be released. Yes, it is going to take both a legal and a political campaign of epic proportions. But as Mumia has recently said, "the time is now". There is change in the air, and justice can be done. See rumblings in the court of Common Pleas (side bar).
When we fight, we win! Cuando luchamos ganamos!

State Rep Vanessa Lowery Brown was targeted by Seth Williams for indictment for her leadership position as a local state legislator.

(Abu-Jamal)
v.
Commonwealth of PA

In June of 2016, the U.S. Supreme court castigated Ronald Castille, former PA Supreme Court Justice and Philadelphia DA, for not recusing himself from Capital cases where he was the District Attorney. For 37 years, Mumia Abu-Jamal has been challenging his conviction. His current criminal defense attorneys, Christina Swairns of the NAACP and Judith Ritter, have filed a PCRA Post Conviction Relief Application citing Williams vs. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
