WOMEX 16 Label Award Goes to…

For the third year running, we're delighted to announce that Glitterbeat will receive the WOMEX Label Award! The WOMEX 14 and 15 Label Award winners achieved the highest rank in the World Music Charts Europe over the past 12 months – congratulations to a worthy winner!

Glitterbeat founder Chris Eckman said: "We are thrilled and grateful to receive the 2016 WOMEX Label Award. More than anything, this award is a tribute to the inspired sounds and visions of our artists. But it is also a recognition of the hard work done by the distributors, publicists, booking agents and managers that we team with every day."

Atlantic Music Expo:
Call for Proposals

It's time: Atlantic Music Expo (AME), part of the WOMEX World Tour, has opened the call for proposals (and launched its new website!) for its fifth edition, which will take place from 10 – 13 April 2017 in Praia, Cabo Verde!

Artists, musicians, speakers, music professionals: here's your chance to help be part of next year's programme. Send in your proposal for an international showcase, Cabo Verdean showcase or a conference session.

AME has become a drawcard for presenting music from and initiating discussions relevant to Cabo Verde, Africa, the Americas and all sides of the Atlantic. The 2016 edition welcomed 750 participants from 37 countries. Find out how to submit here.

Primera Linea's First Edition Goes With a Bang!

We are back from Cuba, where the very intense and successful first edition of Primera Linea, Havana's International Music Forum and the latest stop on the WOMEX World Tour, just finished. We are very happy to see that numerous Cuban music professionals and artists actively participated in all the exchanges, conferences, workshops and one-to-ones. Cuban and International delegates enjoyed the great production, the fantastic venues and of course, the high quality of the Cuban music. Mark your calendars: the next edition of Primera Linea will take place 6 – 9 September 2017 in Havana.

Check the Facebook page for pictures and get the first impressions. A very special gracias to Eric van Nieuwland for the pics!

The All-New EBU Radio Sessions at WOMEX

Want to get a chance to see WOMEX showcase artists perform in an intimate setting? For the very first time, WOMEX and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) present the EBU Radio Sessions: live music performances from Official Selection artists taking place in the WOMEX Radio Studio during the trade fair days. The sessions will be recorded and/or broadcast live and offer an additional platform to learn more about the WOMEX artists and get insights to their stories.

For more information about the EBU Radio Sessions at WOMEX and which artists and radio stations will be involved, see our Radio Studio webpage.

Budapest Ritmo Continues the WOMEX Legacy

WOMEX travels around Europe not only to bring WOMEXicans to interesting places, but also to strengthen the local world music scenes in the area. And here we have a perfect case-in-point: following the success of WOMEX 15 in Budapest, Hangvető and CAFe Budapest Festival, the contemporary arts festival of the city, are launching the capital's own international world music festival and conference, Budapest Ritmo.

The event includes a four-day festival with 28 concerts that will bring beauty and inspiration. As well as international artists, the event will have special focus on Eastern Europe and this year’s partner country, Norway, including the first-ever cooperation of Sami and Roma musicians.

The festival and conference will be held in the familiar venue of the WOMEX showcases, Müpa Budapest (Palace of Arts) between 13 and 16 October 2016. If you wish to participate, please contact for special arrangements for international delegates. For more information on the event, see virtualWOMEX and the Budapest Ritmo website

BIME Pro is back, the conference festival for music, tech and new ideas. It will take place from October 26th to October 28th in Bilbao. BIME is the ideal conference to meet like minded collaborators, new visionaries and simply discover new, previously undiscovered business opportunities. You can get your pass here.
