April 2017 E-News

F O L L O W on F A C E B O O K
Dear friend,

As April arrived my mind turned outdoors and I began thinking about planning -- and planting -- this years burst of colorful flowers and fresh landscaping.

In the course of my planning I came across a quote by Margaret Atwood, "In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt." It gave me pause as I thought about how it's not just the end result, when flowers are in the ground, but the whole process that matters. From researching Western Garden for ideas and choosing just the right plants, to gathering garden tools and sinking my hands in the soil, it is all part of why gardening can be therapeutic, soothing, and inspirational. It's a chance to let the mind wander and engage the senses in ways that are different from sitting at a desk or in traffic.

After a deep, rainy, and restful winter it's time for rejuvenation and renewal. Let's all go outside and play...

Until next time,

The City of American Canyon’s Water Reclamation Facility received the award for “Recycled Water Agency of the Year – Small Agency” by California WateReuse at the WateReuse annual conference last month. The award is in recognition of the City’s leadership with respects to recycled water – especially as it relates to implementation of the Zero Water Footprint Policy and the adoption of the 2016 Recycled Water Master Plan. The awards committee was especially impressed with the City’s proactive response to the drought by converting almost all of our parks and landscape medians to recycled water and our innovative use of dual plumbing (ie. recycled water for toilet flushing) on new development.
