Raiders Foundation Honors Swords to Plowshares

On September 1st, the Oakland Raiders and the Raiders Foundation recognized two of our very own staff members, Randall Flagg and Dennis Johnson. Randall and Dennis were recognized as Hometown Heroes for their work in coordinated outreach efforts for homeless veterans.

7 Key Challenges in Higher Education for Military-Connected Students

In 2015, the American Council on Education identified seven key challenges facing military-connected students. At Swords to Plowshares, we have recognized this need and will be conducting focus groups at four local colleges to figure out how to better address these needs.

Announcing the 20th Annual Veterans Day Dinner and Profiles of Courage Awards

Swords to Plowshares' 20th Annual Veterans Day Dinner will take place on Monday, November 7, 2016 at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco. 

We will honor Michael Blecker for his 40 years of service with Swords to Plowshares. For their dedication to helping veterans, we will also express our gratitude to Latham & Watkins LLP with the Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award.

The hosted reception and silent auction begin at 5:30PM, followed by a seated dinner and the awards ceremony at 7PM.

Lawmakers urge defense bill to help less-than-honorable discharges

On September 13th, our Executive Director Michael Blecker stood alongside 50 other veteran service organizations and a coalition of legislators who support the #Fairness4Vets Act that supports veterans with less-than-honorable discharges.

Legion testimony supports Commissioner Blecker's Dissent

On September 14th, the American Legion presented a testimony during a congressional hearing before the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, agreeing with our Executive Director, Michael Blecker's dissent on the Commission on Care.
