WARF announces annual gift, largest in foundation’s history

The figure is WARF’s largest annual investment in UW-Madison-based research and education in the foundation’s history.

Livability declares Madison the Best Place to Live in America

A new survey of small and mid-size American cities confirmed what we all knew: Madison is the best place to live. The Wisconsin capital capped off its climb to the top of the Livability.com rankings of 1,000 cities this year after taking the bronze medal last year.

The Madison Chamber of Commerce celebrated the news, saying it just proves the city is “the place to be” as the nation recovers from the pandemic and the shift to remote work gives people more option for where to lay down roots.

Madison biotech startup Immuto Scientific raises $2.3 million to scale its drug discovery technology

A biotechnology company started out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison has raised $2.3 million almost entirely from investors within the state. Immuto Scientific’s proprietary technology aims to make drug discovery faster, more accurate and less expensive, according to the company.

Its findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals Scientific Reports and the Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology.

Early-stage biotech startups find common ground at Forward BIOLABS

Imagine the sort of coworking space we’ve all grown used to, but this time it’s for scientists. It’s a place for cash-strapped research teams that have taken the leap and launched small biotech startups with big implications.

At Forward BIOLABS in University Research Park, members can rent space by the 6-foot bench and share lab equipment that’s cost-prohibitive but so critical that many companies wouldn’t be able to start without it.
