Madison #1 in Fundera’s List of Best Untapped Cities for Startups in 2020

The beautiful city of Madison, Wisconsin is number one on Fundera's list, due to an excellent balance of startup-friendly factors. Madison boasts a well-educated population, with 57% having a bachelor’s degree or higher.

This city also has the highest concentration of millennials compared to any other city in the country, making it a particularly great option for young startup founders and their teams.

Percentage of women on Wisconsin corporate boards reaches all-time high

October 16, 2019
The percentage of board seats occupied by women at Wisconsin’s largest public companies has reached an all-time high, according to new research from Milwaukee Women inc.

According to the organization’s new research report, 20.8% of director seats on those companies’ boards are held by women,up from 18.9% in 2018 and surpassing Milwaukee Women inc’s initial goal of 20% by 2020.

Fighting a global health scourge

November 7, 2019
Schistosomiasis is a devastating neglected tropical disease that affects as many as 250 million people, mostly in Africa, Asia and South America. This debilitating disease causes anemia, malnutrition, pervasive learning disabilities, and kills an estimated 280,000 people each year.

In Wisconsin, thousands of miles from where schistosomiasis is most prevalent, the Newmark lab at Morgridge is working hard to find a way to prevent this disease, which predominantly afflicts the world’s poorest people.

Exact Sciences could double Cologuard lab space along Beltline

November 14, 2019

Even before current construction is finished, Exact Sciences is planning for another stage of expansion at one of its Madison campuses, which could about double its lab space.

Exact Sciences would build up to 235,200 square feet at a lab at its Discovery Campus site, near Schroeder Road and the Beltline, to expand its capacity to process Cologuard tests, which check for blood and DNA biomarkers in stool for signs of colorectal cancer.

Microsoft lab leader to discuss past, future at Nov. 19 Tech Council luncheon in Madison

Alan Halverson, a Microsoft veteran and UW-Madison computer sciences graduate who manages the Microsoft Gray Systems Lab in Madison, will discuss the lab’s past, present and future at the Tuesday, November 19 Tech Council Innovation Network luncheon meeting in Madison.

Halverson, who has been affiliated with the lab since its founding, will cover how work done in Madison led to data warehousing solutions for Microsoft Azure; the future of cloud computing and machine learning; and trends that affect many sectors of Wisconsin business and industry.
