Here are the first four investments from Venture Investors’ new $75M health VC fund

October 6, 2019
Invenra Inc., a Madison startup that developed a drug discovery platform to identify human multi-specific antibodies for immuno-oncology, is one of the four startups to receive an investment from Wisconsin’s Venture Investors.

The funding comes from the venture capital investment group’s new $75 million fund dedicated to health startups, which will be managed from Madison, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Milwaukee.

Mallinckrodt, a pharmaceutical company, just completed a successful phase-three clinical trial of its StrataGraft regenerative tissue. And we are busy building the headquarters symbolizing innovation for Exact Sciences, the maker of the noninvasive colon cancer test called Cologuard.

But growth brings challenges.

Hai lands NIH grant to use new brain sensors to study epileptic seizures

September 17, 2019
Through a new four-year, $700,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health, Aviad Hai, an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his team will leverage their newly developed brain imaging sensors and apply them to study the cross-regional manifestations of brain seizures in epilepsy.

Protecting the most vulnerable patients during anesthesia

Pediatric anesthesia is a stressful and critical environment. Dr. Bilen-Rosas wants to help clinicians recognize dangerous sedation pathologies sooner. She teamed up with the Morgridge Fab Lab to create a new medical device that alerts clinicians to compromised airways.

Mallinckrodt Announces Positive Top-line Results from Pivotal Phase 3 Clinical Trial of StrataGraft® Regenerative Tissue

September 23, 2019
Mallinckrodt, a global biopharmaceutical company, today announced positive top-line results from its pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial of its investigational StrataGraft® regenerative tissue.

The study, which met both primary endpoints, evaluated the efficacy and safety of a single application of StrataGraft in the treatment of deep partial-thickness thermal burns.

FDA Decision Expands Market for Exact Sciences’ Cologuard Test

September 23, 2019
Exact Sciences has taken another step toward ramping up sales of its flagship product, a non-invasive, stool-based screening test for colorectal cancer. The FDA has approved the test, Cologuard, for eligible, average-risk patients ages 45 and older, which expands the market that Madison, WI-based Exact can address with its product.

The Wisconsin Early Stage Symposium will be held Nov. 6-7, 2019, at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison. More than 500 people are expected to attend the conference from across the state.

New this year: The conference will be immediately preceded by “Innovation Day,” which is produced by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. The WARF Innovation Day will be held Nov. 5 at Monona Terrace Convention Center, with more details to follow.

The annual Wisconsin W•O•M•E•N reception (Women, Opportunities, Mentors, Networking, Entrepreneurs) will also be held Nov. 5.
