Hello grantmakers and seekers...
Collaboration is at the heart of what we do at 360Giving - be it helping funders to open up their data, working with experts to build digital platforms or learning how people want to use grants data. Without these partnerships we couldn’t have made the progress we have.
A strong civil society is key to successful collaboration. This is why we recently signed a joint letter to the government asking for a civil society strategy that empowers, enables and supports. We believe that opening up funding data is part of that - so that anyone can find out who is funding what, where and what for. We were delighted that Matt Hancock mentioned opening up government grantmaking in his recent speech on civil society in the 21st century. We look forward to seeing some progress on this later in the year.
In the coming months we are ramping up our collaboration as we explore shared challenges facing the grantmaking sector. We are inviting anyone with an interest in data and design to enter our Digging The Data visualisation challenge. Please spread the word.
More and more funders are sharing their grants data because they can see the potential this creates for the sector. Read on to find out who has joined the club, and for some analysis of 360 data for five major funders of science and research.
