Hello grantmakers and seekers...
As we reflect at the closing of 2017, we are pleased to say 360Giving has made huge strides this year in convincing grantmakers of the value of sharing their data openly. The 62 grantmakers now doing this represent the full gamut of funders - from the UK’s largest trusts and foundations, to corporate and family funders, to local authorities and government grantmaking - and a lot more in between, as you can see here. We are closer to accepting as a sector that data is a valuable asset - the new black gold! - as Professor Cathy Pharoah, co-author of Foundation Giving Trends writes below. Looking forward to 2018, 360Giving wants to start extracting that value and we need your help to do this. We have launched a Challenge Fund and are on a quest for questions. We want to identify the key questions facing the funding sector and work with you to find the answers. But firstly we need to know what your questions are. See below for how to take part.
Open data is being used to great effect in all sectors - here’s a great example of how it earned Belfast council £350k in lost revenue. Let’s not allow the charitable sector to be the Cinderella once again and miss out on the riches data can deliver.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and happy new year.
