citywork London 2017

citywork London came back for its second year last week, bringing together HR leads from businesses across the City and the capital. Business Healthy's Project Officer, Xenia Koumi, was delighted to have the opportunity to chair the conference's plenary session, in which representatives from many Business Healthy member organisations were in attendance.

The day-long conference covered the range of the corporate wellbeing agenda, with expert speakers providing insight into a diverse array of sub-topics, including organisational culture, measuring impact, employee engagement, mental, physical and financial wellbeing, and supporting staff on and returning from, maternity and paternity leave, among other topics.

No doubt, citywork London 2017 will prove to have a significant impact in stimulating dialogue and action around improving employee health and wellbeing and Business Healthy was honoured to have the opportunity to play a role in the event.

A programme of the day's activities and video recordings of the presentations will be made available here.

The City of London Police is the local police force for the Square Mile. They are continuously looking for ways to improve the experience of those living, working and doing business in the City.

Each year, the City of London Police produces a short survey to help them gather important information about views on policing in the City. This year's survey is now live, so please complete the short questionnaire to provide feedback on your views, concerns and suggestions.

Can you help carers?

In the UK, around one in eight adults (approximately 6.5 million people) are carers. Carers' Rights Day is an annual event bringing organisations across the UK together to help carers in their local community know their rights and find out how to get the help and support they are entitled to.

The City of London Corporation will be marking Carers' Rights Day on 24 November by hosting a pamper and information event for carers who live in the City of London. In addition to providing practical information to carers on the support services they are able to access, the event organisers are keen to offer treats, such as reflexology, meditation and hand massages to guests.

If you are a provider of these, or any other services, and are able to volunteer your time and expertise to this fantastic cause, please get in touch with the organisers here.

  • National HIV Testing Week (18 - 25 November)

National HIV Testing Week (NHTW) helps to promote regular testing among the most affected population groups and to reduce the rates of undiagnosed people and those diagnosed late.

In the UK, people are testing more, staying protected by using condoms and Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), getting diagnosed and starting HIV treatment earlier. Thanks to this combination approach, the UK is witnessing a substantial decline in HIV diagnoses. In 2016, there was an 18% decline in new diagnoses from 2015. This drop is especially high among men who have sex with men. According to Public Health England, the largest decline in diagnoses are in parts of London that have the highest testing rates and prompt access to treatment.

This NHTW and until World Aids Day (1 December), look out for the Do It London posters across the Square Mile and encourage your staff to get tested. Access more information and campaign materials here.
