Nominations are now open for The District Council of Mount Remarkable Australia Day Awards. The 2016 awards have three categories:
  • Citizen of the Year 
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year 
Council encourages all community members to be involved and nominate individuals, organisations and community groups that have made a noteworthy contribution during the year, and/or given an outstanding service over a number of years, to their local community.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from our website, picked up from the Council Office, 3 Stuart Street Melrose or alternatively contact the Council Office on 8666 2014. Nominations close 5pm, Thursday 3 December 2015. More>>

Community Group Details - UPDATE 
Council has a community group database we use to contact our many groups in the area from progress associations and sporting groups to events or craft groups. If you are a community group in the District Council of Mount Remarkable we would like to hear from you. Council uses this information to keep people informed of training and grant opportunities, when we need to contact you about happenings in your area and generally as an important communication stream. If your community group has changed members recently or haven't contacted Council in a while please give Hayley Trott, Community Engagement Officer, a call on 8666 2014 or via email.

Register your Business/Update details  
Council is formulating an up to date Business Register for the Council website. Council will use this information to update our new home owner packs, allow us to easily contact you if any relevant grant opportunities arise and for reference when contacted by members of the community. Council will in the future develop a categorised list of local business for inclusion on the website. Is your sporting club wanting to apply for funding?
If you answered yes, but don't have a relevant or up to date Strategic Management Plan we have a solution!
MT our STARCLUB Field Officer is running a workshop to help clubs develop their strategic management plans. This is an essential document for those wanting funding. If you are a sporting club and interested in this opportunity please contact Hayley at the Council Office on 8666 2014 or via email to register your interest.

Grants Workshop 
The Mid North STARCLUB Field Officer program has engaged Recreation South Australia to provide a grants workshop. It will be held at the Port Pirie Golf Club on Tuesday 13 October 2015 at no charge but registrations are essential. Business Networking Event - Booleroo Centre 
This business networking event is hosted by the Southern Flinders Industry Leaders Group, a BBQ tea and networking drinks will be provided. Speakers include Brenton Badenoch of Southern Flinders Industry Leaders Group, the Department of State Development, Abbie Arbon of AusIndustry and Shane Kelly of Kelly Engineering. It is being held at the Booleroo Centre Bowling Club on Thursday 22 October 2015 from 5.30pm-7.00pm. GRANT OPPORTUNITIES   

Volunteers Support Fund 
This fund provides a grant of up to $3,000 to community organisations to support volunteer training and resources. the aim is to provide grants that directly encourage volunteering, help volunteers in their endeavors and achieve a range of practical outcomes that directly benefit volunteers by making their work easier, safer and more enjoyable. Applications close Friday 23 October 2015. More>> 

Active Club Grant 
The Office of Recreation and Sports' Active Club Program helps clubs with program and equipment up to $5,000. This funding round is open for program and equipment requests only. Applications close 12 October 2015. More>> 

Whites Rural Communicant Grants 
Two grants of $4,000 are available to help SA kids in rural and remote areas develop in social, economic, environmental and cultural areas. Applications close 31 October 2015. More>>

Positive Ageing Grants 
The Positive Ageing Grants (PAG) program provides one-off ageing specific grants of between $10,000 and $30,000 for projects which promote positive ageing, and contribute to the social economic participation of older South Australians. Applications close 30 October 2015. More>>  

Contemporary Music: Festivals and Venues 
Festival and Venues grants are available for activities that support live performance opportunities for SA artists, and audience development for contemporary music in SA. Applications close 4 December 2015. More>> 

Community Benefit SA 
Community Benefit SA (CBSA) provides one-off funding to incorporated, non-government, non-profit, charitable and social welfare organisations to develop and strengthen communities across the metropolitan, rural and remote regions of SA. Applications close Friday 16 October 2015. More>>

Stronger Families, Stronger Communities Grants 
Addressing priority needs and issues within culturally diverse communities. One-off grants of up to $200,000 are available for projects that commence 1 January 2016 and conclude by 30 June 2017. Projects should be aimed at building capacity, knowledge and skills within the community, without creating a need for ongoing funding or services. Applications close on 12 October 2015. More>>

Festivals Australia 
The Commonwealth will provide approximately $1.2 million each financial year to support the presentation of arts and cultural activities that will enable community members living in regional or remote Australia to participate in or attend an arts driven experience at a festival, or significant one-off community celebration. Applications close 9 October 2015. SPOTLIGHT ON..


Revegetation for Habitat and Bushfire Recovery Workshop 
On Sunday 20 September the District Council of Mount Remarkable presented a workshop called 'Revegetation for Habitat and Bushfire Recovery'. Stuart Collard and Anne Brown from Greening Australia both facilitated discussions and shared their extensive knowledge surrounding revegetation, habitat requirements and bird watching.

A delicious afternoon tea was provided by the Wirrabara Progress Association and then the group went to the King Tree Paddock to put what we had learnt into practice.  
It was a wonderful afternoon, enjoyed by all!

The Booleroo Playground Opening 
As of Saturday 26 September the wonderful new Booleroo Playground is officially open! Congratulations to the Booleroo Centre Community Development & Tourism Association and their playground subcommittee who have done an incredible job. Thanks also to OPAL who helped develop this concept from the beginning. It is an incredible activity hub for all ages and the play-space complements the town beautifully.
