Dear folks,
Apart from a couple of trips back South I'm staying up on Lismore for now. The calm and beauty here is in such stark contrast to everything going on. It's been very touching to hear musicians playing in response to the crisis in the Ukraine and it reminds me of how powerful music is for bringing people together.
There’s a blend of live and online events this month. More below. Hope you can join us.

Join our weekly online fiddle class/session
|
|
I lead a fiddle class online every Monday at 7pm.
The class/session is for adult learners interested in learning Celtic dance music, slow airs and waltzes.
Who is it for?
- Relatively new adult fiddle learners (at least two years of playing)
- Fluid players wanting to develop their technique
- Classical players wanting to try folk fiddling
- Players wanting to widen their repertoire and general playing. I offer support for tone, bowing, left hand, rhythm and reading music and anything else that arises
- Players wanting the convenience of staying at home while meeting other fiddlers from around the world

Testimony
"Mairi's slow sessions have been hugely inspiring and motivating! Taking tunes at a modest pace together with Mairi's exercises and hints has made an enormous difference not only to my repertoire but also to my technique. Playing with others from around the world is great fun.

Dave Gray and I made this song a couple of years ago but it's very appropriate for today I think. The video is made by Lorna Simpson who came up to Lismore for a few days and we had a great time pulling this together. It also features in my most recent album 'STORM' which is the soundtrack to the giant puppet who walked round coastal towns and cities in Scotland throughout 2021.
Anyone wanting to, can show support through Ko-fi.

One of my dreams is to have a dance band here on Lismore of local musicians, and it is now actually coming together! This week is our second rehearsal, and I've spent the week making the sets and putting them up on my website. From here, anyone can learn them and if you come to visit then you can join us for a tune!
You all have access to this resource too.
