He also serves on the Board of several large investment companies, including: Feather Invest, Leap Ventures Investment, Elsewedy Electrometer and ZPA Smart Meters. As President, I would like to welcome Khaled as our North African Leadership Team Member. He, in addition to David Van Dijk (Director General); Ben White (Co-Founder); Alexander Fraser & Chris Campbell (Southern Africa); Rebecca Enonchong (Central Africa); Stephen Gugu (East Africa); and myself, Tomi Davies (West Africa) completes ABAN's continental reach across Africa.

ABAN Masterclass Series 2018
In 2017, US Angel body ACA reported that US Angel Investors pumped $25bn USD into startups; plus, European Angel body EBAN celebrated €6bn of investments in 2017. This news only makes us more excited about the potential for Angel Investing in Africa and the role local African investors can play in supporting Africa's most promising entrepreneurs.

Africa still has a fair way to go to hit these sorts of figures; yet, in time and with a focus on education and collaboration, we are confident it is possible. In pursuit of this goal, and with a core focus on education and collaboration, we are pleased to announce the launch of our 2018 Angel Investor Bootcamp & Masterclass Series - which will kick-off in Nigeria!

Researching Early Stage Investing in Africa
There is a growing consensus that the future of the African continent depends on the success of its entrepreneurs. We believe that fundamental to this success is better access to 'Smart Finance' - where entrepreneurs are paired with experienced Angels who provide not only capital, but also valuable knowledge and networks that will accelerate growth.

Committed to increasing access to Smart Finance in Africa, a critical part of our mission therefore includes ensuring that all ABAN members are not only well connected, but also well read and well informed about Africa's dynamic investment landscape.

As part of these efforts, we have partnered in support of several key research projects focusing on early-stage investment across Africa, with the aim of empowering the African investor community to make better decisions based on hard data and reliable insights.

ABAN + InfoDev World Bank | Angel Investor Research
ABAN and InfoDev at the World Bank Group are undertaking a collaborative study to better understand African Angel Investor networks/groups, with an aim of:
(1)
capturing insights into the operating models that are producing results;
(2) understanding the opportunities/challenges of professionalising Angel group activities
(3) increasing interest in support of organised Angel Investing development in Africa.
The
first phase of this initiative was concluded last year. *Results to be released in 2018.

VC4Africa | Venture Finance in Africa Research
The VC4A Research Team is completing the 5th edition of their annual benchmark study on Venture Finance in Africa, in partnership this year with ABAN and the Mastercard Foundation. This research offers hard data on ticket sizes; returns;  performance; job creation; and ecosystem activity. It also provides running comparisons across sectors, countries and stages of growth to help investors understand 'the African Opportunity'.

Participants will receive full complimentary access to the VC4A Venture Finance in Africa research (value $80 USD). Click here to participate. Click on the above graphic to preview.
