Eradicating Slavery is a Business Issue

The Mekong Club, the go-to organisation for expertise and assistance related to the issue of slavery within the private sector, is pleased to offer in conjunction with our partners, the global leaders in fair labour practices, Verite, “An Introduction to Forced Labour.
WHEN:  Thursday 11th June, from 9am-1pm. Registration starts at 8:30am
WHERE: EY, 22/F Citic Tower, 1 Tim Mei Avenue, Central, Hong Kong

With three-quarters of human slavery falling under the heading of forced labour, victims are found in factories, construction sites, on plantations, within fisheries. The majority of these businesses have a direct link to supply chain. It is however, not exclusive to the manufacturing industry as modern-day slavery affects many different sectors of our economy, making eradicating slavery a BUSINESS ISSUE – not a CSR initiative.

An Introduction to Forced Labour

The session will focus on building awareness of forced labour, where it exists, what it looks like, the causes, the business case for addressing the issue and why a private sector response is essential.
It will also focus on international standards relating to the recruitment, contracting and management of foreign workers, root causes of high-risk migration forced labor, common risks in screening recruitment and in managing sending country brokers, and systems-based risk controls that can mitigate legal and Code violations.
