Dear Members and Friends,

It is a special privilege to have been elected as President following our AGM on 22 November 2016. I would like to thank the Immediate Past President, Lee-May Saw and outgoing Executive Committee members for their valued contributions to WLANSW in 2016: Theresa Power, Talitha Fishburn, Deb Langton, Natasha O’Halloran, and Margaret Holz and Kate Simpson.  In particular, I am extremely grateful for the efforts of Theresa Power who spearheaded over a dozen events in 2016 and also Margaret Holz who cultivated the excellent relationship with Australian Women Lawyers that WLANSW now enjoys.  I congratulate each member of the newly elected Executive Committee for 2016-2017 and look forward to working with you all to achieve great things in 2017. Please click here to view details of the new Executive Committee.

Our End of Year Drinks following the AGM was a wonderful celebration of the achievements for the year. Please click here to view the photos from the event, here to view Lee-May’s President’s Report from the AGM, and here for our Financial Report,  Our Newcastle Chapter celebrated with colleagues at Queen’s Wharf Hotel (Please click here to view the photos from the event), and our Wollongong Chapter celebrated at Pepes on the Beach. (Please click here to view the photos from the event.)

Many thanks to the Law Society of NSW for their ongoing support as our Principal Sponsor, our Silver Sponsor Crowd & Co, to TressCox Lawyers for their ongoing support as host for our committee meetings, and our corporate firms that hosted events for us during 2016.

We look forward to seeing you at our Awards Gala Presentation Dinner on 11 August 2017 at the Grand Ballroom, Doltone House Hyde Park, Sydney and invite you to nominate your exceptional colleagues.  For full details of the categories and criteria for the 2017 Awards, please click here for the Nomination Form. We also invite you to consider sponsorship of the Awards in the event that your firm or organisation wishes to increase its presence at the Awards.  Please click here for the Awards Sponsorship Proposal

The Awards Nominations will be officially open on 16th February 2017 and will be launched at a cocktail event on that date with guest speaker, Prof Gillian Triggs, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, at the Union, University & Schools Club Sydney.

While every Awards Gala Presentation Dinner is special and a night to remember, we are particularly delighted that our guest speaker for the Awards Gala Presentation Dinner in 2017 will be The Honourable Justice Susan Kiefel AC, who commences her role as the first female Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia on 30 January 2017.

Our office will be closed from 23 December 2016 and will reopen 6 January 2017.  The Executive Committee will then meet in the new year for a Strategic Planning meeting focused on exploring ways to continually bring value to our members and colleagues as the voice of women in the NSW legal profession. The Executive Committee thanks you for your support during 2016 and wishes you a safe and happy festive season.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact us about becoming more involved with WLANSW and its subcommittees.  We are looking forward to a busy year of events and policy work and would love to have you on board.

Kind regards

Holly Lam
