Dear CCI Members and Followers,
Starting April 1, 2022, CCI is an independent Linux Foundation (LF) project operated separately from Linux Foundation Public Health (LFPH). We joined LFPH in December 2020 to fight against COVID together and became a Joint Development Foundation-chartered project (Joint Development Foundation is a part of LF) in June 2021 in order to have the proper legal structure to conduct rapid standardization of COVID credentials. Now that the COVID situation is eased, it is time for CCI to explore our next steps as an independent entity by building on our conversations and work in the past two years.
We thank LFPH’s financial and operational support to get us to where we are today and look forward to working with LFPH and other LF projects as sister projects moving forward. The financial and operational separation from LFPH means that in the foreseeable future, CCI will be a volunteer-run organization. While John Walker, Kaliya Young and I stay as LFPH staff to support the Global COVID Certificate Network (GCCN) project as needed, our work with CCI is separate from that effort. The three of us will work with the CCI Steering Committee to continue leading CCI’s work and explore a meaningful and sustainable path for CCI. Currently, we are focusing on the operational migration with one major step to complete - moving our community space out of LFPH Slack, which will require actions from you when we have a new space set up. The migration doesn’t affect your membership with CCI, and the CCI membership program will stay open and free.
As we kick off this new journey, many things will remain uncertain for a while. However, one thing is certain - we are committed to keeping CCI as an open and global community that welcomes diverse perspectives and constructive feedback. In the months to come, we will continue to run the Global Implementation Forum on a monthly basis (starting in May 2022) and invite community members and guests to present on thought-provoking work and topics that can shed light on our future.
We are also excited to share that the Digital Health Credential System Implementation Guide V1 that has been in development in the past few months is close to its finish line and will be the first community-wide initiative we launch as an independent organization. We look forward to seeking community approval of the final deliverable and sharing a rollout plan with you soon.
Lastly, a sincere thank you to all of you who have followed and supported CCI’s work along the way. If you have any questions or thoughts regarding this change, please feel free to reach out to me at lucy.yang1030@outlook.com.
Sincerely,
Lucy Yang
Community Director of CCI & Chairperson of the Steering Committee
