COVID Credentials Interop-athon
Cardea, the COVID credential project hosted at Linux Foundation Public Health, is going to host an “Interop-athon” on September 9, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm Mountain Time.

As Cardea is now being commercially deployed to share COVID-19 test results, vaccination, and trusted traveler credentials, it is important to facilitate and showcase the interoperability among these projects. To this end, Cardea will host a four-hour interoperability “hackathon style event”. The maintainers of Cardea will stand up a test environment including an Issuer, Mediator, Government, and Verifier Agents for participants to test against. Participants can also bring their own decentralized network!

RSVP to join today! For any questions, please reach out to Trevor Butterworth.

2021 CCI Steering Committee Members Election Guide
We are on track to host the steering committee members election before the end of October!

At the upcoming August CCI All-Member Meeting, we will walk the community through the election guide and answer any questions you have about the election and what it means to become a CCI Steering Committee member.

If you are not a CCI member yet, you can join anytime for free by requesting a membership agreement here.

Update on Rules Engine Task Force

We got the Steering Committee's approval to proceed with launching the Rules Engine Task Force under the Use Case Implementation Workstream.

We are looking for a co-lead to work with John Walker, our Community Architect, on facilitating the community work. The meetings for this task force will start in early September. Before that, John is talking with other communities to learn about relevant work and identify collaboration opportunities. If you are doing such work or know of any, please reach out to John.
Update on CCI APAC Group

We have identified and spoken to three community members who are interested in co-leading the APAC group. As the next step, we will meet with them together and come up with a plan to present to the community before we officially launch the group in September.

We are still working with the Steering Committee on restructuring some of our existing group(s) to become geo-specific groups, such as the APAC Group. These groups will allow community members to define the focus as things evolve. Hope to provide an update on this in the upcoming all-member meeting.

LFPH Global COVID Certificate Network Update

LFPH hosted the fourth implementers meeting for the GCCN Trust Registry Network on August 20 to share the latest updates on the starting definition of the Network and discuss with the community priorities and next steps.

Community Groups Updates

Use Case Implementation Workstream

The Use Case Implementation Workstream met twice in the past two weeks:

  • On August 10, Lal Chandra from iGrant.io demonstrated their “Data for COVID” solution to convert COVID vaccination certificates to secure wallet-stored digital credentials ready for exchange (recording here).
  • On August 17, Kaliya “Identity Woman” Young, our Ecosystems Director, provided an overview of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s recently published Digital Documentation of COVID-19 Certificates: Vaccination Status (DDCC: VS) - Technical Specifications and Implementation Guidance document (recording here). The DDCC: VS proposal by WHO is a mechanism by which a person’s COVID-19-related health data can be digitally documented via an electronic certificate. A digital vaccination certificate that documents a person’s current vaccination status to protect against COVID-19 can then be used for continuity of care or as proof of vaccination for purposes other than health care.

The group's next call is on August 24 at 7 am PT / 2 pm UTCLiquid Avatar will present to the community their Verifiable Credential Ecosystem and how they are implementing it in Canada for COVID credentials.

Schema Task Force

The Schema Task Force met on August 9 where Paul Knowles
provided an update on the Good Health Pass-aligned schema specifications the task force is working on (recording here).

Paul will do an in-depth distillation on some of the differences in data capture recommendations between the WHO specification and the eHealth Network’s guidelines on verifiable vaccination certificates at the next call on August 23 at 8 am PT / 3 pm UTC

Rules & Governance Workstream

The Rules and Governance Workstream has begun the work on drafting the Governance Framework Template. Check out the document to see different ways of contribution. There are some really easy ways to contribute

For now, the plan is to announce weekly updates to the forums and seek reviews and contributions from community members. Our upcoming set of updates will be focusing on the key principles which the community deems necessary and non-negotiable in the template. We will also be announcing a shortlist of special topics sessions around the various issues in credentials governance.

The group's next meeting is on August 24 at 8 am PT / 3 pm UTC.

Vaccine Credentials Focus Group - US Subgroup

The Vaccine Credentials US Subgroup convened on August 12 (recording here) to discuss what the group could do to respond to the increasing demand for COVID certificate solutions for domestic reopening and reached the conclusion that we needed to have a bigger voice to educate the market on what is the right way to go.

Join the group's next meeting on August 26 at 11 am PT to get an update on what we plan to do to provide market education.
