Important Announcement
CCI’s Use Cases workstream and the Tools and Technology workstream are merging into one workstream called the Use Case Implementation workstream. Oskar Deventer and Paul Knowles are the leads, and Michael Corning and Gurvinder Ahluwalia are supporting co-leads. The mailing lists for these two workstreams will be merged shortly. The new joint/merged Use Case Implementation workstream will meet next on Tuesday, August 18, at 7 am PT / 10 am ET / 16:00 CEST / 7 pm HK (one hour earlier than previous), and it will continue with a bi-weekly meeting schedule.
Use Cases
CCI's Use Cases workstream had a well-visited meeting on August 4, 2020 after coming out of a summer break. Some of the highlights from that meeting include:
- Roos Bakker (TNO) made a presentation about the UC02 COVID-19 Credential for PCR tests, used by uNLock project.
- Alex Blom (Bloqzone) demonstrated of UC 11 Verify-the-Verifier implementation, where a visitor verifies the authorization of the doorman to receive a COVID-19 credential about that visitor.
- Four additional projects have introduced themselves and joined our lineup of demos.
- The group responded positively to the suggestion about having a Youtube playlist of CCI demos for participating projects. We will work with the communications team to gain consent from project owners.
- The group responded positively to the suggestion of having an externally-focused CCI event, showcasing CCI results so far.
Rules & Governance
The CCI Governance Framework Task Force continues to seek and receive inputs on the v2 of the Governance Framework document. Through these we expect to arrive at a correct balance of aspirational and normative guidelines. We also hope to include examples and elements that help the audience make better decisions when adopting the framework for their specific needs.
We now have meetings on Mondays (for EU/NA) and Thursdays (for APAC/ANZ) and details are available on our wiki page. The next milestone is to have a first draft (English only) of the v2 document available for wider review and inputs by mid-August. We call upon the audience of the newsletter to help us in advocacy and outreach to individuals and organizations who are working in the space of technology interventions pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic and "safe return to work".
Tools & Technology
We are in the process of being merged with the Use Cases workstream. We hope by merging we can bring more diverse views to the discussions of use cases and projects. We encourage those who have presented at the past tools group calls but not yet to the use case group to introduce your project in one of the upcoming calls of the merged workstream.
Communications, Coordination & Inclusion
We hosted the second Community Guidance Team call and focused our discussions on the potential homes for CCI and the near-term focus of CCI's work. We have reached a general consensus that CCI should continue to be a forum where demos of products and services using privacy-respecting verifiable credentials to address COVID-19 situations are shared and supported. One of the prominent tasks identified during the call was to wrap up unfinished work (e.g. use case documents) so that there are finite outputs we can cite and showcase.
We are in the process of setting up a CCI Twitter account through which we plan to share CCI updates, activities (e.g. workstream calls, events, etc.) and outputs to a wider audience. One type of output will be the demos for participating projects. We will work with the newly merged Use Case Implementation workstream in the upcoming weeks to gain project owners' consent and relevant project information.
