Future Business Voice

Welcome to the November 2016 Edition

As the Paris Climate Agreement enters into force this month we are keeping a keen eye on the significant innovation and growth opportunities this historic agreement will create for business across Australia.
In related news, this month we officially launched a groundbreaking legal opinion on climate change and directors duties jointly commissioned by the Future Business Council and the Centre for Policy Development. The legal opinion, written by top barristers Noel Hutley SC and Sebastian Hartford Davis, and lawyers, MinterEllison, brought into clear focus the critical need for company directors to actively consider climate change risks, take appropriate actions, and disclose and report on these risks to shareholders in order to meet certain duties as directors under Australian law.  The advice was the subject of a high level roundtable attended by over 30 business, regulatory and legal leaders. The advice is now available online and has been reported on widely across the business press in The Australian, AFR, The Age and SMH.
The Future Business Council is also proud to have been nominated as a finalist for the Melbourne Awards  for our pioneering work The Next Boom. We’d like to thank all our members as this recognition is testament to leadership and vision of the local business community.

We are also excited announce the inaugural Monash Business School and Future Business Council MBA Scholarship. Applications are now open so get in quick!

Finally, as the wave of global discontent with inequality rises it is clear that there has never has there been a more important time for business lead the push for a fairer, more just society by working with government, academia and the community to collectively navigate the changing world.

I encourage all business leaders who are embracing the opportunities of this century to join the Future Business Council as we drive the transition to a more innovative, sustainable and fair economy.

Existing business groups aren't addressing the risks or seizing the opportunities. We do, and we are committed to accelerating the growth of companies that do too.

We hope you enjoy this edition,  and remember you can stay up to date with the latest news by following us on LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter.
