My name is Richard Musgrove, of Musgrove Consulting, and I enable business growth through effective written communication.
I am a writer and editor of business grants and tenders, websites, and other technical content. My skills are based on more than thirty years’ professional writing experience, and I am a published author in science and its communication. My website is: https://www.rmusgrove.com.
I am also a passionate advocate for Plain English.
What is Plain English?
“Plain English is clear, straightforward expression, using only as many words as are necessary. It is language that avoids obscurity, inflated vocabulary and convoluted sentence construction. It is not baby talk, nor is it a simplified version of the English language. Writers of plain English let their audience concentrate on the message instead of being distracted by complicated language. They make sure that their audience understands the message easily.”
Professor Robert Eagleson,
Associate Professor of Modern English language (Retired)
University of Sydney
Does your audience understand your message? And does it really matter?
Well, yes, increasingly so, in this highly competitive, time-poor world of ours. Funding submissions (i.e. grants and tenders) are often rejected because applicants don’t answer the questions clearly, and don’t engage the reader. In the same way, those reports, plans or WH&S policies are only worth your time and money if they are read and understood.
We all know the frustrations of trying to work out what people mean. So, I have decided to do something about it.
I offer writing, editing and mentoring to individuals, companies and government departments, focusing on Plain English.
I am a local, based in Speewah, near Kuranda, and am happy to meet with you face-to-face or online to discuss your requirements.
Fees vary with project, and with the length of the engagement, so I’ll send you a quote once we’ve had a chat.
