GRAM PRESENTS MAURICE SENDAK: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Exhibition on view April 9 – May 22, 2016

GRAND RAPIDS, MI, March 24, 2016 – Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) presents Maurice Sendak: Where the Wild Things Are, on view April 9 through May 22, 2016. The exhibition presents original drawings, prints, and posters by children’s book author, Maurice Sendak in celebration of the publication’s fiftieth anniversary.
 
The six-week exhibition will include a family-friendly member party, story time tours, book readings, in-gallery games, and an all day celebration on April 16, the Wild Thing Rumpus. This event is free for members and open to the public.

Wild Thing Rumpus
Saturday, April 16, 2016
10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Parent and Child Workshop: Wild Thing Board Books
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
$10 per child for members, $15 per child for non-members
$5 per parent for members, $8 per parent for non-members
Bring your child to GRAM and discover the original art of Maurice Sendak, author and illustrator of Where the Wild Things Are. Together, you can gather the wild things of your imagination into a board book that will be enjoyed for years to come. This activity is open to all ages.

Wild Member Party
11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Members only
Join us for a family friendly member party, where your kids can meet a Wild Thing, go on a wild thing scavenger hunt throughout the galleries, and enjoy kid-friendly food while connecting with fellow art lovers.

Story Time
1:00 pm
Free for members, free with admission
After the member party, head to the galleries with the kids for a special reading of Where the Wild Things Are, featuring a special guest reader!

Hands-on Art Making Activities in GRAMStudio
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Free for members, free with admission
Continue the wild rumpus party! Drop in to GRAMStudio and enjoy hands-on art making activities for the whole family.

Arrive in your pajamas and get ready for a night of fun at the Museum! Join us for a reading of Where the Wild Things Are, followed by a 30-minute tour of the exhibition at 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
