To St. Paul’s Membership,

Christ is in our midst.

As all of you are aware, the greater Dayton area was impacted significantly on Memorial Day, May 27th, with around 20 tornadoes. You may also be aware that the St. Paul’s Missions and Outreach Committee has been putting together a team to respond to the hurricanes that hit either Texas or Florida last year. The Committee has determined that it would be prudent to redirect that effort to responding to the disaster here in our own back yard.

We have been in contact with multiple, international disaster response organizations and have determined Samaritan’s Purse would be the best one for us to partner with in this response. Samaritan’s Purse has established a local volunteer center at Living Word Church in Vandalia. Their volunteer center will be in operation through June 15th, so we will need to put together our first response team for part of next week. Below are additional details on working with this center.

If you would like to be part of an organized St. Paul’s group that will be going over to provide our support, please contact David Short (937-823-0809 or
david.b.short@sbcglobal.net). We will also be having a meeting to discuss this after the liturgy on Sunday, June 8th. At a minimum, please keep the victims, first responders, and volunteers in your prayers.

  • Work Included: Debris clearing and movement to curb, chainsaw work, roof tarping, site cleanup, etc. If you cannot do heavy work, they also need people to manage the phones and other administrative activities and the volunteer center.

  • Current Group Planning: We would like to target a 3-day group June 12-14. If you can provide additional individual time, let David Short know and we can help you to get registered directly.
Note: We are not endorsing Samaritan’s Purse evangelization processes or contributing financially to this ministry. This involvement is to get us on the ground with an organized response group that is established in this recovery process. If there is still interest in helping after the June 15th completion date for the Samaritan’s Purse Volunteer Center, then we will work with other groups that will be in the area longer to continue our involvement.
