Make Wishes Come True
After you have enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast, football and the fun rush to Pre-Christmas sales, you may want to focus on giving to others. You have a perfect opportunity to do so on Tuesday, November 29. It’s the date slated in Newton to financially bless local charities, including CASA: A Voice for Children.
For the second year in a row, Central Kansas Community Foundation is sponsoring the Give Now/Newton initiative in the gymnasium of the Newton Recreation Commission at 415 N. Poplar Street. As part of the initiative, a wish book has been created, detailing specific needs of CASA: A Voice for Children along with other area charities.
On your way to or from work, or while out running errands, drop by the gym to help make it possible for CASA to check off some wish-list items. For more information on the wish lists, call Sandra Bradley, executive director for CASA: A Voice for Children, Inc. at 316-284-6908.

Harvey County Courthouse Food Drive
All departments of the Harvey County Courthouse are participating in a food drive that will benefit the Salvation Army. There is a friendly competition going on to see which department can bring in the most food and CASA/CRB needs your help! If you have any non-perishable food items or items such as diapers, tooth brushes or soap that you would like to donate to a good cause, please bring those to the office or give them to Ashley or Bill anytime you meet with them. This will begin November 7th and last through December 5th.
Book of the Month
Children who are cared for in an out of home placement are in need of support and stability. This classic text offers information and advice for professionals and carers on how to help these children, who will often have attachment difficulties.
Vera I. Fahlberg, M.D. shares her experience and expertise, outlining the significance of attachment and separation, the developmental stages specific to adoptive children and providing guidance on minimizing the trauma of moves. The book also features practical advice on case planning, managing behavior and direct work with children, and throughout are case studies and exercises which provide opportunities for further learning.
A readable, compassionate and practical text, A Child’s Journey Through Placement provides the foundation, the resources, and the tools to help students, professionals, parents and others who care to support children on their journey through placement to adulthood.
There will be a question related to the newsletter posted to the CASA Facebook page, anyone who answers that question by the end of the day on Friday will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift card & another CASA themed prize. Good luck!
