QBIII – Wagga Wagga, 11-13 June

OACT is running Day 2 (Sunday June 12th) of this fantastic event.
The weekend is also ACT League (AL) races 6, 7 and 8. So if you want points you need to be there.
Long Distance courses have been set by Geoff and Jenny Lawford with controlling undertaken by Phil Walker.

Organisers extraordinaire, Sue Garr and Ann Scown have undertaken the task of recruiting people to assist on the day. Rest assured that the usual incentives will be on offer.
Please respond with your preferred position to Sue ( as soon as possible.

Primarily, Saturday night under the stars
Who could resist the opportunity to camp out under the clear Burngoogee skies, amongst the blackberries (they were fat and plentiful last season) with an almost full moon on offer?
We need someone/anyone/everyone to camp out at the Assembly area overnight on Saturday June 11th.
If this is your kind of entertainment, get in early with your booking before the tents are full.

On the more mundane side of things, there are the usual positions available on SUNDAY to those who can spare the time. All positions are flexible and you will be able to get a run if you would like. More details of exact time requirements will follow.

Register Your Return

Remember to punch the finish units at all events.
This will register that you have returned to the finish and will turn off your SIAC stick if that is what you use.
Then, remember to come to the Download computer to register that you have returned.
If you abandon your course and do not finish – please remember to come to the Download computer and register your return.

All participants must download at the computer, whether you have finished your course or not.

Recording a Few Mispunches (mp)

If you do not have a SIAC stick, then you need to insert your SI stick into the control unit.
Be aware that when units are tied onto strings, your SI stick may not register correctly.
Check that you are inserting into the “face” of the unit (you should be able to see the unit number).
Also, make sure you receive a “beep”, keep your SI stick in long enough to record and if necessary, hold the unit whilst you insert your SI stick.
Follow these simple points and that pesky “mp” should disappear.

Blue Lightning Junior Coaching

Blue Lightning is the Development Squad for junior orienteers in the ACT. Any secondary school student may join Blue Lightning, younger orienteers from around age 10 and upwards are welcome to participate if they are transitioning to more difficult (moderate) courses.

Training is on Saturday mornings each week, just before the Metro Series events. Each session will start at 9:30am, which will allow enough time to complete the training, have a discussion and let you have a rest before the Metro Series event starts at 10:30. Meet at the event assembly area, and keep an eye out for coach Tara and other squad members. No need to RSVP, just come along and join in. Parents, friends and families welcome to join in too!
