PERKculator Report
I've considered opening The Lit. Bar in my apartment because our pop-up shop and your perks have taken over every square inch, lol. All books, bookmarks, hoodies, and tees have arrived and will be shipped to you before the end of July. Tote bags will ship in August. I never imagined we would have 1,821 backers (similar campaigns I've studied had a quarter to half that); thank you so much for your patience as I sort, pack, and ship 1,821 thank you gifts with love.

PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS HERE IF YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR SHIPPING ADDRESS.

Mo' Money

Our
Indiegogo campaign has brought in $151,846 to-date!
If you're wondering why or how we're still raising money, Indiegogo has allowed us to join their "InDemand" elite, allowing us to keep the campaign open indefinitely. I will close the campaign as soon as our obligations for a major brand opportunity are fulfilled (secret backer will be disclosed soon and now I leave you in suspense...). You'll see that the perks are now limited and tier prices have gone way up to keep things fair for those of you who contributed during the intended campaign period. While I'm no longer actively campaigning, it's a great way to capture contributions from people who stumble upon it via the media while I'm working on the work. Cheers to The Lit. Bar opening with minimal debt.

All In with Chris Hayes
Last month, Chris Hayes returned to his hometown to put on a smashing fundraiser for The Lit. Bar at Lehman College. Proceeds came in at around $4,000! Many thanks to Chris, Dream Yard, the University Neighborhood Housing Program, and the Herbert H. Lehman Center for Student Leadership Development.
Location, Location, Location

I'm striving to open our literary home by the end of this year and focusing my efforts in the Hunts Point and Mott Haven neighborhoods. The South Bronx is going through an interesting time as market rate developments seem to be popping up overnight. The biggest challenge I've faced has been inflated rents above current market values or property owners holding on to their vacant spaces altogether in hopes that affluent commercial tenants are on the way. To combat this (somewhat), hitting the pavement (skipping commercial agents/brokers) has proven to be the more progressive strategy. When I'm able to get a face-to-face with owners, educate them on our mission & plans for sustainability, and highlight your support, they are willing to work with start-ups. I currently have two prospective spaces on my radar, the search continues, and you'll be the first to know when we've landed a lease. Then we party!!!

Wanted! Have you seen this space?
A lot of great property leads have come from you guys just passing by them and sending me pictures (so appreciated!)... so let's keep it going! Please email me the details. If your lead pans out, you'll score a ticket to our Pre-opening Boogie Down Celebration and we'll extend our employee discount to you for 3 months!

Final Note: My newsletters may be odd to some; I've been cautioned about sharing too much information with the public, but I believe that transparency and asking for help has and will be the key to my success. I'll only stop sharing when I or my supporters no longer find my communication style valuable. Plus America basically bought me a bookstore, so in my mind a lot of this experience is our business to share.

Xo,
Noëlle
